Quick pumping question!
So my is EBF but I pump and then feed her with a bottle (long story...)
She is 2 weeks old and I pump anywhere from 2oz to 4 oz during a pumping session. Sometimes it seems like she wants more. Am I getting enough? How much is "normal" at this point?
Also, should I try More Milk Plus or one of those kinds of products?
Note: I am drinking tons of water and eating oatmeal for breakfast.

Re: Quick pumping question!
You could try to pump a longer to see if your body begins to try to produce more to keep up with the demand.

Re: Quick pumping question!
you can try power pumping... pump ten on ten off for an hour repeating a couple of times for a fw days... that always helped for me
i never looked at how much it was per pump that i got but how much i got per day... you say your getting 2-4 oz... but are you pumping every 2 hours or every 4 hours.... trust me it makes a difference... right now i pump every 8 hours and get 8 oz... before it was every 6 hours and got 5 oz

Re: Quick pumping question!
We will find out weight gain at her peds appt tomorrow -- I think that is why I am nervous that I'm not feeding her enough...
I pump every 3 hours for about 10 minutes. I have tried going 20 minutes but I stop producing milk around the 10 minute mark.
I am going to try the power pump tomorrow.
Thanks for the ideas!

Keep pumping for 20 minutes even though your body stops expelling milk at the 10 minute mark. Your body works on the principle of supply and demand; if your body thinks you need more milk then it will produce it. If you stop pumping when your body stops expelling milk, then your body thinks it's enough milk.

I also wanted to add that I think underfeeding is one of everyone's newest fears when bringing home their newborn.
My MIL & mom made me a complete wreck over it, e.g."I think he's losing weight?"; "are you sure he's getting enough, he looks thin." - meanwhile he gained 1.5 times the amount he was supposed to.

Re: Quick pumping question!
Quick update: Carson's birth weight was 7lbs 10oz and her 2 week weight was 8lbs 2oz
Her ped said if she met or exceeded her birth weight, she was fine so I am feeling more confident about my BFing.
Thanks for the support!!

Exactly what I was going to suggest. For quite a while in the beginning I would time my pumping sessions going out further even after the milk stopped to try to trigger that response that more was needed.
