anyone ever have a colonoscopy?

I know this is not TTC related but I feel comfortable with you all, and would rather post here, so Im sorry in advance for taking up the space.

Im at my wits end...I have an internal problem that been going on for about a month now. 1st dr gave me 3 meds which seemed to work after about 10days but problem came back again a few days after that. I called his office 7 ( yes 7 times) in 6 days before he finally called me back..all the time I was missing work and in severe pain and didnt know what to do. HE said come see me again, and I asked him for a note for work, he said I DONT DO THAT..I was out over 2 weeks..Im probably going to lose my job Ive been at for 5 years.

Today Im in pain AGAIN, left work early and went to a NEW dr. This one was nicer, but didnt help me one bit. He gave me an rx for something that I have been using, isisnt working and another one...

I go to the pharmacy and they tell me the rx is a RECALLED DRUG???? I called his office and they were closed...

I even called him when I got home to say I really needed SOMETHING for the pain, and some kind of hope this would end soon.
He said nothing...Chat Icon Chat Icon ( this was before I found out about the recalled RX!)

So, he scheduled me for a colonoscopy...in a MONTH...But what are colonscopys good for diagnosing? I thought it was just cancer or crohens disease( I have neither, Im 99% sure).

Does it hurt during or after the procedure?

THANKS SO VERY much for reading..

Im just so upset, I wanna jump off a bridge...

I am so sorry. You absolutely can not lose your job over this. You are sick and they can't fire you for that. I would go to an gastrologist (sp). Also, call several providers, it shouldn't take a month to get an appointment.

I hope you feel better soon, sorry. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have seen two gastro's now...I think Im gonna keep calling/seeing Dr's till someone does something for me. Work is flipping mad at me..I'm there , then out, then there...My boss looks at me like Im crazy, and the first dr refused to fill out my disability papers( you have to go on short term disability at my job after 5 days of being out) ...I wasnt asking the guy to lie, just tell them why I was there.

Dr's Really are stupid, Im so annoyed with them!

THANKS!!

Donna, I'm such a dummy.. I have been MEANING to ask you about this health issue and didn't realize that you were still suffering so much Chat Icon SO SORRY SWEETIE Chat Icon

My brother has Chron's disease and has had multiple colonscopies over the years (he is also a physician, by the way) so if there are ANY questions I can ask him on your behalf, email me and I'll definitely get as much info as I can for you!

And I cannot believe your doctor will not sign the note for your job, though - I KNOW how much pain you were in, what is wrong with these damn doctors!! Chat Icon

TY! I think Dr's PUSH this on people! When its not needed...at 30 yrs old, its unlikly to have many diseases it can diagnose.

Re: anyone ever have a colonoscopy?

Donna I've had one a couple of years back, its not too bad. They lubricate the area so you dont really feel it too much, its more uncomfortable than anything else. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to FM me.

Hope you feel better!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: anyone ever have a colonoscopy?

I am so sorry it's getting this bad. Your doctor is an idiot for not filling out your forms for you. Want me to go beat him up? I will.

Will regular pain killers help with the pain? I don't really know anything about colonscopies, but I will hope they are painless Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: anyone ever have a colonoscopy?

i have had a couple. It is really no big deal. The worst part is the stuff you have to drink the nite before. It's nasty! Usually you can't eat the day before and you start drinking the drink at around 3 p.m. Don't plan on getting much sleep, you are running to the BR all nightChat Icon . The procedure itself takes very little time and you can eat right after...which is the best part.
They use a camera and can see everything that is going on. So if you have polyps or internal hemorroids or even mild diverticulitis they should be able to see it. For me, it was polyps, which they removed right there.
Good luck and I hope you feel better!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: anyone ever have a colonoscopy?

I never had a colonoscopy (although I may need one soonChat Icon ) but I have very bad gastrointestinal problems. My father has colitis so I have to keep getting checked for that.
Anyway, I used a great Dr.. her name was Bethany DeVito. Unfortunately for me she moved further west( too far for me)... but I think her new office would be close enough for you. So if you need a new Dr. that is very attentive look her upChat Icon

Re: anyone ever have a colonoscopy?

Sorry you're in so much pain. I hope you find a more responsive dr soon.

As for the colonoscopy I've never had one, but have heard from others that the day before is the worst since you have to prepare for it. Most were in "twilight" sleep and didn't feel any pain during or after.

Good luck!
