Colin Anthony 7-13-2009
After 4 months of strict bedrest due to Incompetent Cervix...I was finally release onto modified bedrest at 35 weeks. I was taking Procardia to prevent contractions and was only allowed short outings, but I was just happy to be up a little.
My baby shower was Sunday, July 12th and I spent some time on my feet, but was not feeling too uncomfortable and if I had any kind of cervical pain I sat for a long while.
I had a regular OB visit on Monday morning at 10 a.m.. I was due for my first internal and a strep B test. We were also going to discuss removing the cerclage the following Monday. My OB inserted the speculum, took one look and pulled the speculum out and told me to get dressed.
After I was dressed, he had me come into his office while he called my Perinatalogist and told both her and I that my cervix was dilated to 3/4 cm and my membranes were bulging around the stitch. I was told to go straight to L&D and my OB would meet me there.
At noon, my OB arrived at the hospital and removed the stitch. As soon as my legs came out of the stirrups, my water broke. At this point, I was dilated to 5 cm. and feeling contractions but they were very mild. I was started on Pitocin to strengthen the contractions and the waiting game began.
At 4 p.m., the contractions were fairly strong and I was dilated to 7 cm. Doc suggested if I wanted an Epi to do it then before the pain got too severe or I got too dilated to have time to do the Epi...so I got the Epi.
5:30 p.m. - I was having severe contractions and couldn't resist the urge to push so it was go time! I pushed for about an hour and Colin was born at 6:37 p.m. weighing 7 pounds and 1/2 an ounce and measuring 20 inches.
He had to go to NICU due to respiratory issues and up to this point is still there. We are hoping to have him come home on Monday - which was the Neonatalogists first estimation of when he would go home.

Gerty, I've been waiting to read your story!!!!! I'm so happy that Colin is here, strong and healthy!!! He'll be home in no time!!!!

Wow, what a great weight for being so early!!! I'm so happy for you and hopefully you can bring your little boy home tomorrow

I have followed your long journey to reach this point, and even benefitted from your generosity (when you graciously gave me your leftover meds from one of your prior cycles)...and even though I have not ended my own journey, I am truly inspired to keep on fighting!!!
