Nope and I WAS pregant last year. It's LESS deadly than the regular flu. It's just that the media made more of it.

As long as you wash/purell your hands and encourage your students to do the same it's fine.

Honestly, I would normally say no, but like you, if I WAS to get pg this year, then yes.

not too worried - but there was a huge flu outbreak in April in another school in my district (regular flu) and the teachers there were freaking out - which I may have as well. My school was so healthy this year - I kept waiting for the big absence days - they never came.

A little- I have asthma so that is a concern. And under regular circumstances, parents send their kids to school with all sorts of ailments (which I understand to a degree since childcare is hard to get). I also have a child, age 2, so I always worry about passing something on to her.

In general, it has made me more diligent about not only washing my hands, but also the desks in my classroom... not just for swine flu but for all germs. I returned to teaching after my maternity leave in March'09 and both DS and I were sick as dogs from March-June. I already bought my disinfecting wipes from costco!

oh.... and I started to only use my pen when writing out passes!

A little, but I am going to take the same precautions I did last year. My school had a ridiculous amount of people out for swine flu (we were closed for a week) and I was pregnant the whole time. I stocked up on orange juice and thsoe dannon immunity yogurt shot things. Drank plenty of water. Talked to the kids and explained protocol. I moved the tissues and garbage to the other side of the room so the kids wouldn't come near me. I had lysol wipes and wiped down my desk and other kids wiped there's down. I also washed my hand everytime I ate and went into my office. I agree with a previous poster that although the swine flu is serious, the media hyped it up way too much. What I told my students (who are high school) is to be smart and not share anything with other kids, limit the kissing hello and stay clean. (this was also a great time to give my freshmen a nice hygiene talk...lol)

I am a little nervous about the swine flu and any other germs with a 1 year old at home. I like what someone said about putting the tissues somewhere other than my desk. It gets hard with the sharing of pencils and constantly touching their things. I will def be stocking up on lots of antibacterial wipes!!!

Thanks ladies Chat Icon I just get nervous because I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO overly cautious last year about not getting sick and still managed to get sick A LOT towards the end of the year! I was out sick for a week and my dr thinks it was actually swine.... but it was never confirmed Chat Icon

Chat Icon that we all have a healthy year!!
