DOE teachers who drive- YAY (I think)
Post story
5,000 parking permits are being restored. Not sure how that will compare to what we used to have- hopefully more teachers will get permits! My school NEVER had issues with parking till this past year and there was so much ire and bad feelings involved- it was terriblle. Hopefully this will restore some harmony and make parking a little easier!

5000 is a lot to restore, but don't be shocked if those permits go to admins as it seems it was the principal's union that had the victory.
I work in a privatrly funded school across the street from one of the city's biggest high schools. The surrounding areas have designated DOE parking and there had always been enough parking for those who had placards. Though my school was small, the DOE had administered a limited # of placards to us because there was no place for us to put our cars even if we got to work an hour early. We were very grateful for that and it was based on seniority in our building. Last year, when they restricted the amount of placards, not only could the employees of my school not find parking, but even the teachers in the HS across the street couldn't either.
We had been told that those spots would be "returned to the neighborhood". However, those spots were not returned. In fact, they never removed the DOE parking signs thus leaving at least 50-75 parking spots empty for months. Local neighborhood residents couldn't (and still can't) park there and neither can the DOE's own employees.
It is a mess. for many of us to take public transportation to work, would take us hours.

does anyone know how you might get one if more are given out or if you're in school that might not have such a waiting list for them? right now, DH takes public transport, but this coming school year, he will have to drive on the days he will drop off DD and my mom's.
