nyc teachers ...... setting up the classroom

Is it different depending on the school?

I am guessing we can start setting up the first week in September (so, starting Monday August 31st) Does anyone know if it's the same for all the nyc schools or I need to call up my school to ask what day it is for us?

I just don't want to have a problem where I start stressing out and staying VERY late. Last year was my first year...... and for 3 days in a row I arrive around 10am or so....... and stayed until 8pm.... EACH DAY! Granted it was my first year so I didn't have a system down yet ... but ....... I am hoping this year it is more manageable!

ETA: How many of you have someone else come in to help you set up the room?

I think it depends on your school. I got an email from my old principal (before i got a new position) saying that we werent allowed before August 26- per custodial request. Do definately shoot your principal an email and see when you can go...
I always bring my husband, and two of my friends to help meout- finish the classroom in two days- three days max! Good luck!

It is totally up to your principal. My administration promised the custodial staff that theschool would be teacher free until September 1st. That is when we go back. However, I have a meeting on August 31st and I am hoping I can get into my room.

We were told the 31st, but were asked to not stay later than 5.

We're not allowed in until the 1st or 2nd. Honestly, try not to BS with people and you'll get it done. I find that THAT is what ruins my time there. I'll pop in a room for a quick question and stay 30 minutes. Also, get there EARLY! One day, do furniture and get the room in order. Uncover and unpack. Put new workbooks away. Another day, decorate. Hang up posters, charts, etc.

depends on the principal.

my school has been getting reno'd for the past 2 yrs. my whole grade is getting brand new classrooms this yr. we had to pack our ENTIRE classrooms. I has 40 boxes. however, from what I understand the building is not done, so we have no idea when we can get in. we are going to need so much time to unpack all our stuff and start from scratch. im starting to get worried, because they havent updated us at all

i teach ICT so i have a coteacher to help me set up our room

we arent allowed in at all. The only day we can set up is that day before the kids come in.

administration....its a middle school so for many setting up will not be so bad. I feel bad for the people who are changing rooms. I packed up really well so that I can put back stuff easily.

Thanks ladies I'm going to call up my school and see what they say....

Is it weird that I am sort of excited about setting up?!! I went shopping for my classroom and I got so many nice things!!!

Lesson planning though... that's another story. Def not looking forward to that. I wish I could just be a classroom interior designer
