I reuse everything each year. Since I teach 1st grade I use numbers instead of student names. My principal (at the time) felt it was less embarrassing for the students if their numbers were on the behavior chart & reading groups board... So far, it's worked for me- I haven't had to make new stuff yet

I used to- but for the sake of time and being more environmentally friendly AND frugal Chat Icon I laminate and reuse stuff as much as possible. I don't really change my class rules, procedures, subject signs for bull bds, etc. and I always have to do a classroom library that's organized by genre (those signs are especially a pain!)

Of course stuff does wear out but I have gotten a few years out of most of my stuff.

Best tip I've ever heard ( though I haven't done it yet) get fabric cheap or on sale and use that to cover your boards. It is a one time cost, and does not rip when you pin or staple papers onto it.

we do this too but only because it is easier to not have to redo certain things. we use it for their "frogs" on the behavior chart.

but i also love it because when we have a firedrill or something, as we walk i call out their number and they say here, if they dont i know that one is missing or absent.

I don't put up a lot of decorations at all, and most of it is just student work.... but the word walls & bulletin boards I do here & there, I must redo every year because I don't have space to store them from year to year, and by the end of the year they're not so nice looking anymore so I trash them.

Re: Do you make new posters and decorations every year?

I have a different theme in my classroom each year so as far as bulletin borders and stuff like that go I buy every year. Last year my room was all monkeys, the year before that it was all sea animals and the year before that was all apples. Im not sure what I will be doing this year but for me I like it because its like a fresh start... if that even makes sense !
