Knitting and Crochet Patterns for Newborns and Babies?

Anyone have any easy ones to share?

I'm expecting and all the warm cozy cotton things for baby seem to be so overpriced! Want to try to make some basics myself.

TIA! Chat Icon

how comfortable are you with knit/crochet? how simple or complex would you like the pattern to be? would you prefer free patterns or books with great patterns?

oh and, do you know what you're having?

It looks like a Chat Icon

I'm a pro at knitting scarfs Chat Icon

I can probably read up on stitches I'm not familiar with, I'm a fast learner, but I want to start with projects I can finish quickly and successfully to get me motivated for more.

I'm quite fast and comfortable at purl and knit.
And can chain stitch (crochet) at 90 mile an hour. Other than that I have a lot to learn.

I need easy patterns, I'm not used to reading them and get flustered when I have to continuously count tiny stitches.

I figure tiny hats would be an easy start. Maybe then move up to booties and mittens? Then maybe hoodies?

Oh and at this point, since I feel I'm relearning... I'd like avoid investing too much $$ in case it ends up frustrating more than relaxing me.

is this a style you'd like?
this would be a really easy knit.

this can be made with a cotton/acrylic blend yarn, which isn't too expensive.

in the meantime, i'll see what else i can find you

yay! that would be great!

Where do you buy yarns? I've always just bought at Michaels, but I think I'd want something a little better quality cotton and soft for baby.

i'll look up a pattern for you.

as far as yarn. michael's has re-done their yarn section. they have a lot of newer stuff. they have eco-friendly stuff and some yummy feeling stuff. i would say to give them another try. for someone re-starting, it's worth it.

a lot of the cotton/acrylic blends are really soft and are ok for new babies.

ok, i'll be back with an easy pattern for ya... oh, one last question, do you know how to knit in the round or is flat knitting better for you?

this pattern can be done either way, so don't worry about it either way. i just want to know what you prefer.
