TEACHERS (guidance cousnselors) IN EXCESS HELP

I am a guidance counselor in excess.

My principal ideally wants me to come back, and just stay in excess, next yr my collegue is retiring and I will back at my school.

No schools in my district have had openings on open market.

I got a call to come in today to interview for a school in the same borough but different district.

I told them I am away and cannot come until tuedsay.

WWYD? If offered the jon would you take it?

As per UFT guidance chair I MUST interview but can decline if I choose.

It is elem. and I have MS and HS experience .

dO NOT WANT ELEM.

any advice?

JMO - Go on the interview. If you get it, you'd be in a school where you have actual rights (some ATRs get treated like crap, even in their schools). Then transfer back to your original school after a year.

I see what you are saying BUT I have a very good relationship with both my Principal and AP.

I do not want to leave my district or go to elem school.

I feel like if this was ANY grade level within district for a year I would do it.

I do not want to go for a year and risk being in excess in this district (if the coworker we are banking on retiring does NOT retire, I will lose my right of return)

KWIM?

Then it sounds like your decision has been made already... What's holding you up from declining the interview?

I am unsure if I CAN just turn it down.

I was told you have to accept interviews but CAN turn down offers.

Can I just say this is not a good fit no thank you. And NOT attend the interview?

Thanks for your help Chat Icon

Do you have a job if you don't go on this interview?

Re: TEACHERS (guidance cousnselors) IN EXCESS HELP

Yes. I remain in my building, in excess.

I will continue to do my regular duties but technically I will be "in excess".

I need to be actively looking for a job.

BUT I would prefer my grade level, not elem. I have the right to turn down a position.

I know it is confusingChat Icon

My collegue will likely be retiring in June and then I return to regular status.
