I'll keep taking the high road

So we re-did SD's room for her, she only visits on weekends not even on a set schedule anymore now that she's almost 16 but we wanted to do something special for her.
We busted azz & did her room, she saw it before it was finished so I made a facebook album and BBMd her and asked her to look so she could see the updates. She told me she was busy and she'd look later. She always has her blackberry in her hand & she's constantly using it even when she's busy. Whatever.
Her Moms husband is out of town and BM decided to spend Q-time with DSD cleaning up her room there since we re-did her room here. They ate sushi two nights in a row & went shopping, tons of togetherness time they never have when BMs husband is around.
almost 24 hours goes by & SD had been on FB with her friends all night and she never responds to the pictures.
I send her a message saying "I guess you're not impressed with the updates Daddy & I did to your room, Lame"
and she replies, "I didn't get a chance to look at the pictures".
Whatever.
I swear there is nothing we can ever do that won't be tainted by BM.
I'll still keep taking that LONG, LONELY, high road.

Well, I got a chance to look at the pictures and I like it!

Just try to remember, she is 16... I remember how flighty I could be at that age. You start talking with your friends about boys or who is wearing what to school, and somehow 3 hours pass by and you didn't do the one thing you sat down at the computer to initially do.

I agree with Esquire. My SS is 18 and still doens't acknowledge anything I do for him. She appreciates it, trust me. She's just preoccupied with her friends and stuff.

PS It looks great. Nice Job!

Another thing.....I can't stand when BM has to compete with you. It's not a freakin competition. Whenever I buy something for SS, she has to too and she always has to out do me!! It's infuriating. Luckily I make more then her and can buy stuff she can't afford.

I'd like to see her compete with a trip to Pittsburgh and Steelers playoff tickets!! HAHA....I did that for him and DH last year!!

Awesome job on the room Chat Icon

You know, 16 is that "wonderful" age Chat Icon , where everything a parents does/says comes second fiddle to friends and social life...I for one was the queen of this and completely regret my selfish ways now that I no longer have my parents ....

But, I DO remember every thing they did for me, it just took me a little longer to appreciate it than it should have....Everything you guys are doing for her is not for nothing, just remember that...

And as for the BM, its classical behavior that we have all encountered
( some worse than othersChat Icon )
As hard as it is, you are doing the right thing by taking the high road and I hope that the tides turn as she gets a little older and can think independently ( this is also what I tell myself Chat Icon )

I just wanted to offer some hugs!

I know how lonely the high road can be!!

It's very, very frustrating to try and try and to seemingly get nowhere. I do agree though, that 16 is a tough age, and part of it is typical 16 year old behavior, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with!

You did a beautiful job on that room! 16 is such a hard age (when I was 16 my whole family hated me) Hopefully as she gets older she will appreciate you more!Chat Icon

Heck, I'm this way NOW!!!! Chat Icon

The room looks great, you guys really did such a nice job with everything!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think a lot of it is the age, but I also think it's "out of sight, out of mind", ykwim. She might not seem very interested now but when she's actually there and can really see the room you might get a better reaction out of her.

And I just wanted to throw this out there, food for thought. Is there any chance that maybe she's disappointed that you guys did all of that without her? I know with my DD she'd want to be a part of it. Maybe that could explain why she's not too keen on looking at the pics??

Re: I'll keep taking the high road

thanks for all of the replies, i know you guys are right about her age. I'm still irritated BM constantly has to try to compete. it really has taught SD to manipulate everyone even more.
Cindy, I totally get what you're saying but SD didn't want to help with it. She is very big on avoiding any work around the house. She was thrilled that we didnt make her help. When she saw the room the first time in person she had a friend sleeping over & they both went crazy & loved it. I know the pictures only showed a couple of new things but I totally feel like she could have acted happy just to please us. She has issues with making everyone around her feel like $hit. I am the only one that doesn't let her get away with it. treat people the way you want to be treated, I don't care if you're 6, 16 or 106!
I just keep telling myself that she will remember how hard we tried to make things good for her during her childhood when she is a mother herself
