We've had it added to our regular day for the last two years. They added a few minutes to every period. (I teach high school)

Re: NYC Teachers....
Every teacher Ive spoken to said that they wrote that extended day is a waste of time on that UFT survey and to get rid of it!! we can only hope!!! Do you know how much money Bloomberg can save just by getting rid of it?
To say it works is one thing... but its not!! Most schools only realistically get an extra 15 minutes or so of extended day....

honestly if we have to work the extra minutes, id rather it just be extended throughout the day instead of small grp in the AM. It is torture to plan stuff to do with them. id rather have an extra writing period or longer word study period or something
we tried voting for this and i believe it won, but it was not accepted

My students have extended day in the morning. Since I have special ed and they are all in need of remediation, they are ALL supposed to come to extended day. Honestly, I am lucky if HALF show up on time. They know it's 'extended' day so most don't bother to show up until the day 'really' begins
It's good for me because it's nice to have such a small group in the morning but honestly, the extended day is such a waste. I really wish they would just do away with it.

Re: NYC Teachers....
Wow, am I understanding this correctly? NYC has decided to extend the school day? How long has this been? How does this work? I get from the posts that your school can decide how to allocate the time, but how long does the extension have to be?
Forgive my ignorance, please, but I'm not a NYC teacher.

As per the last contract, so 2 years ago they added 37.5 minutes to the day. The time is supposed to be used for small group instruction of kids who did not do well on the state exams, but since many feel that the program doesn't work schools have opted to absorb the 37.5 minutes into the regular school day.
Our school has not. I have been agaisnt absorbing it. Although extended day does not work it costs the city $$ to double bus all the kids when there are 2 dismissal times. I figured that once we absorbed it, the city would just try to permenently extend that regular school day, which is what people on here are talking about.
We had so few 2's this year that most ppl in my building do not have extended day or only have 1 student.

Re: NYC Teachers....
Wow that's a tough spot. I can see in theory why it would be beneficial, but theory and reality are two different animals
