Identical/fraternal ?
Ok, as I posted on pregnancy, it appears that our twins are most likely identical. My question for those that have identicals is when did you find out they were identical? Or in the alternative how did you know they were fraternal?
They think ours are sharing one placenta and that the membrane between them is very thin. I am dying to know if they are really identical or not!

Re: Identical/fraternal ?
We know we were having fraternal right away since there were 2 different sacs at 6 weeks. and we did IVf so we had 2 seperate embryos

Re: Identical/fraternal ?
I found out they were identical at my Level II...same as you..one placenta and the membrane was very thin.
But keep in mind that this was over 10 years ago and alot has changed since then...Im sure they can tell earlier nowadays.

This doesnt mean they are not identical ya know...
I thought it did too.
Mine are in seperate sacs as well, but one egg could split and each half fertilized a little while apart from each other and implant seperatly.
If your having a boy/girl then its obviously fraternal....but since I found out we are having two girls...even though they are in seperate sacs.....we were told the only way to know if they are identical or not is a blood test or just waiting to see based on looks etc.
Although its more likely they are fraternal with seperate sacs.

Re: Identical/fraternal ?
Mine are identical and are each are in their own sac. It is very common for both to be in their own sac. I was told it's very dangerous when they are not. Like you mine also have one placenta and the size of the membrane tells them they are identicall.

Re: Identical/fraternal ?
I found out at 10 weeks that mine were identical. They had two separate sacs but shared the same placenta. Sometimes though they cannot tell you until after they are born with testing. Some identicals are in separate sacs and have their own placentas as well.

Re: Identical/fraternal ?
Here's my not so simple answer:
I was told that my twins were going to be fraternal. But, when they were born it was impossible to tell them apart. Then I met a twin mom in Target & we got to talking. She made a comment how my girls are identical. I said I was told they weren't but, looking at them who knows. She said the same thing happened to her. So she went out & got her twins dna tested. Turns out hers were identical. Apparently they can seperate early on in the pregnancy but, be identical anyway. So, I ordered a test kit & had my girls tested. And yes they are identical.

We put back two embryos as well, and saw two sacs at 5w1d (and throughout the pregnancy they've always been in separate sacs). We were just told, however, that they share a placenta and are, therefore, probably identical.

Re: Identical/fraternal ?
I have Identical Twins. They each had their own sac, but they were not sure if there was one placenta or two. They finally were able to determine this when they were born. Identicals can have any combination of sacs and placentas, depending on when the egg split.
Only way to definitly know is if you have different sexes. Then you know they are not identical.

They are identical if they share a placenta. If they don't share a placenta you won't know unless you have a test done after they are born. My identical twins shared one placenta and they said the same thing - very very thin membrane separated them.
