Would it be a bad idea...
to have someone come in and do the hardwood floors at the same time that someone is removing wallpaper and painting? Or should we space them out a week? And if so, which should I have come in first?

I would do the wallpaper/painting and then the hardwood floors.

if they are on the same floor, there is no way to do them both. You cannot walk on floors for at least 24 hours after the last coat is applied.
Even if they are on different floors I wouldn't suggest it. 1. The smell of the poly is toxic, and 2. the removal of wallpaper is messy and you may have to skimcoat walls which is dusty and I wouldn't want anything flying around getting into my newly poly'd floors.

Re: Would it be a bad idea...
i'm going through the exact thing right now...they shouldn't be done together and you will get varying opinions on who should go first.
The floor finisher will want to go first...b/c he will get the coating on the moulding. the painters will want to go first so they don't have to be as careful as to not get paint anywhere.
we are having our walls spackled, sanded, etc and painted and then the floors. i am pretty sure I'll need to touch up the moulding after the floors are done.

I would do the walls first. That's what we did and it worked out well!

We're doing this now also and the various floor guys that we have gotten quotes from all told us the same thing- it depends how your painter is comfortable working. We have made an agreement with both of them that the painters are going to put the first coats of primer on the walls, then the floors with be done and the painters will come back to finish painting.

Re: Would it be a bad idea...
we;re in the same boat right now. unfortunately though, due to our move timeline, we weren't able to finish painting before the floor guys came in.
this past weekend, we took down all of the wall paper, washed the walls and painted the ceilings. floor guys started on monday, ripping out the old carpets and redoing the floors. we'll be painting the walls this coming sunday after the floors have cured a bit. our movers come a week from today.
we're going to be using canvas tarps down on the floors this weekend when we paint. our floor guys said that as long as we can get up any paint with soap and water while it's still wet if it gets on the floors, we'll be fine.
in an ideal world though, take the wallpaper down and paint before you have the floors done.

Walls first. You won't be able to walk on the floors for a while after the stain is down and then the poly. So have everything done before that.

Re: Would it be a bad idea...
DEF do floors first! I just did painting then floors a few weeks ago and the sanders DESTROYED my molding and it needs to be redone. Granted my floor guys STUNK but i still would do it that way in hindsight.
ETA: you just need to space it out a little but honestly it takes time for the fumes to air out anyway so its not like you could do floors and move in right away anyway.
