I was due on August 3rd, but like many of you that day came and went and no baby. I had my next Dr's appt on the 5th and was hoping I would get an induction date or at least have some more progress by that time. At all my other appt's i was only 1cm dilated and DD was very high.

At about 7am on the 5th i got up to use the bathroom for like the 100th time that night and i felt a small gush. I thought I might have tinkled and ran into the bathroom. I was still leaking a pinkish fluid when i got in there and realized my water broke. I woke up DH and called and doc and we were off to the hospital. When we got the the hospital I was only 2cm dilated and the baby was still very high. I was having small contractions that i couldnt feel that were about 5 minutes apart. I was admitted and they started me on pitocin right away. My blood pressure was very high so they had me lie on my left side pretty much all day. After a few hours I still couldnt feel the contractions, they were just feeling like period cramps, but they were now 3-4 minutes apart. The doc did an internal and drained some more of my fluid. I was only 3cm dilated. After he drained the water the contractions came on in full force. ugh. At about 2pm i asked for the epidural, that thing is a miracle. At 4pm I was checked again and was only 4cm dilated, baby was still very high. My contractions werent getting any stronger or closer and after this point i didnt dilate anymore. Finally at 9pm i was being wheeled in for a c-section. I was terrified. I cried the whole time. They had to give me anti-anxiety meds so i didnt freak out and have a full on panic attack (i have had then prior to pregnancy).

I barely remember the c-section. I remember them pushing on my rib cage, felt like they were jumping on it. They needed the vacuum to suction the baby out. Apparently she was that high up. When they finally got her out I heard her crying and it was a wonderful sound. She had meconium so I didnt get to see her right away. They had Dr's from the NICU in there to check her out right away. After a few minutes they gave her to DH and he showed her to me. She was beautiful. After they took her away i could hear my Dr giving someone instructions on how to stitch me up and i almost lost it again. I needed more anxiety meds and the next thing i remember is being wheeled to recovery.

In recovery i had the shakes soo bad. I couldnt talk, hold the baby, nothing. They piled on heated blankets and eventually i just fell asleep. I woke up like 2 hours later feeling much better. The baby was already down in the nursery so i didnt get to see her. I was waiting to go down to my room and they were checking my vitals to clear me out of recovery and they noticed my temp was a bit elevated. They drew some blood to check my white blood cell count to rule out infection. My white count was ok but my red was way way down. They waited a few hours and drew blood again. My red count was even lower. They sonod my uterus to make sure i wasnt bleeding internally, but everything looked fine. I have thalessemia anemia so my red count in low to begin with but it dropped to almost half of what i normally was. The whole time I was in and out of consciousness. I told DH I felt like a narcoleptic, i would fall asleep mid sentence. They finally decided i needed a blood transfusion. After 2 pints of blood i felt much better and my counts were going up. After 14 hours in recovery I was finally able to go to my room and see my DD.

Everything in recovery was going well. I had the baby on Wednesday and we were set to go home on Saturday. Well Friday they came in to check my temp and BP and my BP was extremely high. They checked it every few hours and it was fluctuating so badly they wouldnt let me go home Saturday. On Sunday they decided to treat me for preclampsia even though none of the blood work said i had it. They hooked me to an IV of magnesium sulfate for 24 hrs. It was too bad except after about 15 hours it made me very dizzy and off balance. I needed a nurse with me everytime i used the bathroom. This didnt work for my BP. They then decided to try a BP pill at a low dose. After 24 hrs it didnt do anything so they upped the dosage, FINALLY it worked and 8 days after being admitted, we were discharged. Thank goodness I delivered at Stonybrook. Having my own room was amazing. It was like being in a hotel for a week lol. The nursing staff was great as well.

DD was born healthy even though i had complications. I would do it all again in a heart beat. Because of the vacuum assisted delivery she had a big bruise on her head, but by the time we left the hospital it was gone and her umbilical cord had fallen off. We joked that she would be starting kindergarten by the time we got out of there. Well here she is. Savannah Rose born 8lbs 9oz 21 inches.
