doctors and ss
i took my ss to the doctor today - finally got a copy of the health records from school since his mom didn't want to comply and send any doc info to us...turns out - his last doc visit was over 5 years ago...anyway - it was so uncomfortable for the first five mins b/c even though i wrote stepmother on the forms, the doc still called me his mom... the converstation started:
dr: so, mom - how old are you? me: um, i'm ** and his stepmother, his mother's age is ** dr: oh, okay how old is dad me: ** dr: so, any illnesses on the mother's side of the family? me: umm, i don't know - i guess not dr: ok, dad's side? me: none dr: how was his birth me: not sure, wasn't there but i think all went well - vaginal
it was just the most bizzare conversation and something only us stepmothers would understand
all in all, he's healthy and happy to have finally seen a doctor...

Re: doctors and ss
I know!!! I've been there. It's so akward. I didn't mind if he called me Mom but, I wasn't sure how SS felt about that so, I corrected the Dr. and then wondered if I just upset SS!!

Re: doctors and ss
I know! It is so weird. I had to take SD to the pediatrician a couple of weeks ago and I was admiring the hand painted murals and the doctor said something to me about the ones in the other exam rooms and I said that I hadn't seen them. She says "SD is 10! How many years now have you been bringing her and you never noticed?!" I told her this was my first time to the office and she looked at me like I was nuts. LOL I didn't bother getting into explaining that SHE was confused. I will just let her think the BM is crazy. LOL

Re: doctors and ss
Wow 5 years, that's unreal!!
Glad that SS is healthy, that's what's important!! Yea, I could see that being really awkward tho, I guess the doctor just has to ask those questions no matter who brings in the child. Fortunately I've never had to do that!

Re: doctors and ss
glad SS is healthy - 5 years is a long time to not see a doctor. I have not been in that situation but I could definately see how awkward that would be.
