WHEN do we vote?? (Does Long Island even vote?)
I am sooooooooooo sick of these dumb political ads! Is voting not until November?
All the ads I see are for NJ (I did just see one for CT though). Is NY even voting? I wish they could better target them to the people who can vote for them.

Your town and county officials are up for reelection. Assorted judges are also running.

Re: WHEN do we vote?? (Does Long Island even vote?)
Threre are always elections in November. It depends on who is up for re-election on what positions you would be voting for.

This is my social studies teacher side coming across
The local elections such as town and county actually have a great effect on our daily lives and things like taxes, infrastructure, building in your community, civic improvements, safety etc. They matter so much and deserve your attention every bit as much as national elections.
So don't forget to vote

ITA! in fact, most of these folks have more of an effect on us than the national leaders. i just wish that we were better informed of who was running, their stands on issues, etc. you would think that because it's on a smaller scale, we would know more about them, but we don't.

And you only vote in the Mayoral election if you live in the city, Long Island doesn't vote for them.

Re: WHEN do we vote?? (Does Long Island even vote?)
It's funny to me how so many people get wrapped up in voting for president when in fact the president is really mostly a figure head. Your local politicians, judges, assemblymen, etc have the biggest impact on your day to day living. They are the ones making choices in your town and affecting life as you know it. Yes presidential elections are important, but these small elections are more important.

Re: WHEN do we vote?? (Does Long Island even vote?)
I have to agree with some of the posts that most voter eligible citizens don't realize that their own town is important too.
But it also goes beyond actually showing up at the voting booth in November and casting a vote. If there is a problem in your town, your elected official is usually more than happy to hear what you have to say since it gives them something to do ;)

Well of course I'm gonna vote.
I've just been seeing tons of LAME commercials since early August, and hadn't seen any for NY. I just hate the commercials!

Re: WHEN do we vote?? (Does Long Island even vote?)
To find out about who is running/the issues etc., contact your local civic association ( For the town of Brookhaven - http://abcoonline.org/index.php?option=com_weblinks&catid=14&Itemid=23).
They usually have a "Meet the Candidates Night". The Brookhaven Town one is Monday, Oct. 19th at the Coram Firehouse.
But sometimes, your own Civic Association will host their own.
This is an EXCELLENT way to meet the candidates and find out where they stand on issues.
At mine, there are usually 20-30 people...sad. Very sad.

The reason you see NJ and CT is b/c our TV stations are for the TRI-State area

Oh yeah, i know WHY, I am very aware of the TRI-state area, I just thought it was strange I had seen so many for NJ and none for NY. Just wanted to know if we are voting too, and how soon it would be until these horrible commercials go off the air.
