One of my BFs who has two kids told me something similar...and almost that "if only she knew" she may not have had kids...not that she doesn't love hers to death but it's just alot of work!

ETA: Did anyone watch the Desperate Housewives premiere where Lynnette is at the Gyno's and goes on a rant to a first time mommy-to-be about the "reality" of motherhood...made me think of this board...the funniest was she said something like "everyone lies to you about the reality so you will have kids"...wish i could find a YouTube clip!

Re: X-post from Parenting for those of us on the fence:

It really does put it in perspective for anyone, whether they are on the fence or not. I know it does for me. These types of thoughts are what comes to mind when people make it sound easy. It may be that way for a few; but there's no guarantee.

What I think of too is the women out there who are already hanging by a thread, or who lack morals or selflessness. Who might be in an already struggling relationship. Then you add the enormous responsibility of caring for another life. What happens? The child will suffer at some point, or continuously through it's childhood. So when people say, "Don't worry, once you give birth, you will be sure you did the right thing, love your child, and that will get you through." I just have to shake my head. It's not always a fairytale happy ending, there are no guarantees that a child won't be neglected and resented.

It comes down to the individual, and if that thread helps people take a real hard look at that decision and helps them one way or another, I think it's great. We need more reality in life! Chat Icon

I saw this thread and wanted to say the same thing NO ONE tells you the truth about motherhood. I have a almost 6 yr. old and an 11 yr. old and while some things get easier, some get harder. Parenting is NEVER easy IMO and if someone tells you how "wonderful" it is every single day, all day long--they are lying or not doing it right-Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I love my kids to death but some days I count the minutes until the bus comes or bedtime just to have some peace and quiet-lol!!
I do have a great dh that will take them out to the movies, the library, shopping etc. to give me a break.
