Check your Vitamins

Can I take megavitamins while trying to conceive?
Expert Answers
Bridget Swinney, nutritionist No. Megadoses of certain vitamins and minerals can actually hurt you. If you're trying to get pregnant, you don't want to put yourself or your baby at risk.
Fat-soluble vitamins — such as vitamins A, D, E, and K — are stored in the body and can build up to a toxic level if you take in too much. Excess vitamin A can cause birth defects as well as headaches, diarrhea, and liver and bone damage. And while water-soluble vitamins — such as the B vitamins and vitamin C — aren't stored in the body, large amounts of some of them can still cause problems. It's best to stick with 100 percent of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for each vitamin and mineral.
Even if you aren't taking "megadoses" of vitamins, you still may be getting too much if you are eating more than one serving of fortified cereals and other fortified foods per day. Vitamins and minerals (as well as herbal supplements) are also found in fortified water, health drinks, and energy bars. Read the labels to know exactly how much of these vitamins you're getting.
Keep in mind that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn't closely regulate supplements. Manufacturers don't have to provide the FDA with evidence that dietary supplements are effective or safe.
A balanced diet and a multivitamin or prenatal supplement containing 400 mcg of folic acid and 100 percent of the RDA of other vitamins and nutrients is all you need. Ask your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian for personalized nutritional guidance.

Re: Check your Vitamins
I'm the opposite, I hardly eat ANY fruits and veggies.
I'm trying to be better, but I don't like the stuff so there's not much hope for me!

I take prenatals & Folgard (folic acid) RX. It worked for me the first time, so I will continue...also recommended by my OB.
