After BD, what do you do??
Someone told me that if I want to get pregnant, I have to put my legs up after BD. And not to pee for awhile. I disagreed, and felt like everything will get where it needs to go. As someone that's prone to UTIs, I felt like I should be going to the bathroom and cleaning up afterwards.
I was pretty sure I was right, but now I'm worried. Should I be doing something differently??

I've read that you should keep your legs elevated for 20-30 mins after. I do the 20...I figure a little gravity can't hurt. It worked with my DS, but so far I haven't been as lucky. Good luck to you!

Get up, and clean up.
Millions of people get pregnant every year without keeping their legs up in the air after BDing
you'll be fine!

Same here... and I pee. I still have that whole "pee after sex to avoid a UTI" thing burned into my brain.

This may help calm your nerves...
Myth: The Missionary Position and Pillows Are Essential for Conceiving
Fact: The most important aspect of conceiving is that the sperm have access to the cervix and that there is no interference by toxic substances. That means that you can use any sexual position that you want, but stay away from lubricants and saliva. If the sperm do not enter the protection of the cervical mucus within five minutes, it is inactivated by the normal acidity of the vagina, which means that lying on a pillow for half an hour is unnecessary.

Re: After BD, what do you do??
I lie down for 10 minutes (not with my legs up in the air) and then go pee. I'm too worried about getting a UTI and I believe the sperm get where they need to go.

Re: After BD, what do you do??
yeah, I really don't think it's necessary, especially if you're worried about UTIs. Personally, I don't time it. After BDing the last time I got a BFP, I did try to elevate for a little bit but I definitely went to the bathroom and cleaned up within those 20 minutes afterwards. I'm not comfortable either with letting it 'sit' too long. But on the other hand, I do get nervous when I stand up and feel it all dripping out of me (lol).
But like PPs have said - people HAVE gotten pregnant without doing these techniques. So I don't believe that they're a 'must do' kind of thing. Probably just helpful if you DO want to try it out.

Re: After BD, what do you do??
When I got pregnant in July I had propped my butt up after we BD and didn't pee for like 20 min. So I believe that it what helped, and if this month isn't my month I will start doing it again next month lol

Thank you.. i asked my dr. this same question and he said the exact same thing. Total myth.
What happens is people think it might work, and so they do it, and coincidentally they happen to get pregnant, so they think it's because of that. My dr said that i can get up and walk around as soon as i want to, and peeing doesn't hurt your chances with anything.
I used to get UTI's all the time, so i don't take any chances with not pee'ing. besides.. who has time to lie around for 20 minutes after?

Re: After BD, what do you do??
I have always put a pillow under me. Then i try to wait 30 mins before going to the bathroom. Plus i try to lay down the rest of the night. So we usually wait to BD until an hour or so before going to bed.

Re: After BD, what do you do??
Of course you don't have to keep your legs up and not pee to get pregnant! But it does help, from what I have read and in my own personal experiences!

Re: After BD, what do you do??
Hm. Well, it's too late to try it this cycle, but if I don't get a BFP, I'm trying that in November!!

I agree with this 100%. I conceived several times by running to the bathroom, washing, peeing, etc.
I never have and never will do the legs in the air thing...especially since (as I've probably written before) I want to make the experience as natural as possible. DH would probably look at me like .
Whatever floats your boat though...it can't hurt.

Re: After BD, what do you do??
When I had my IUI and conceived my DD the RE had my elevate my hips for about 15 min. I never pee'ed after the doing the deed either. I waited for at least a half hour. If nothing else it can't hurt. Anything to increase your odds!
