Do you lose your certifiction if you dont get your masters?
I am a certified teacher (general and spec. ed birth-6th grade) I grduated in May 2008 and just cannot find a job I am currently subbing and its not bad but its not every day and I have no medical insurance. I would like to have a baby in a few years and I need to have insurance before doing that. I am thinking bout going back to school to be an x-ray tech or something else in the medical field where I will actually be able to get a job. If I end up doing that instead of getting my masters will I automatically lose my teaching certification?

Re: Do you lose your certifiction if you dont get your masters?
I think you have 5 years, but I'm not sure.
Did you try leave replacements? I did a 12 week leave replacement at the start of one school year, the teacher came back and I left.
Lo and behold in June that year, that same district called because the teacher I did the leave for decided to retire, and i got the job permanently, so def don't count out leaves (I also did NOT know anyone in that district).
I will say though, that every teaching job I have ever gotten was NOT through OLAS. I've never even gotten an interview through OLAS.
Try the schools that have their own websites for personnel, that worked for me. Or maybe home tutoring for kids who can't go to school for a couple of months?

You might want to contact the state. I graduated in '04 and we had to work two years within 5 in order to maintain our cert. I have also heard of people filing for extensions. Not sure if the rules have changed. You might want to call the state ed department to check.

this was also true of those under the old guidlines (pre 2003) so i would think if you did it in 2004, than that's the way it still is.
any experience counts: subbing, leave replacements, etc. you can file for an extension and inability to obtain a position is one of the reasons they grant an extension.

I would think that you would lose it, but could apply again. However there are always new regulations that you may not be grandfathered into.
I didn't know that about subbing, but i did just look and it does count.
I will say that I got my current job from OLAS.
