What does a miscarriage feel like

Just got my period and heavy clots and intense pain in my stomach. Never really bleed this heavy..think maybe I am miscarrying? What should I be feeling? Should I go to the hospital and get checked? Cant get an GYN apt till next tuesday. HELP!!

Maybe take a test? I think it should still be + even if you are MC.

Honestly do you really want to know? Alot of women miscarry before they even know they are pregnant...personally I'd rather go with it's a heavy period than to think I lost a pregnancy...your doctor would just call it a chemical pregnacy anyway.

I didn't naturally miscarry...but I have had VERY heavy and abnormal periods. Maybe its just that?

I miscarried naturally but I had heavy bleeding for about 5 weeks.

I think if you really are concerned that you might want to call your dr but if it doesn't last that long I would just let it go.

How far along are you? Did you ever get a BFP? Or are you just awkwardly late? I kinda agree with PPs that it's probably not worth knowing if you just feel like it's too heavy to be AF But to answer your question...

I m/c naturally at about 5 wks (the "period" only came about a week later than it was scheduled for). It was heavy, but honestly no more than a regular heavy period. The only difference was that I had a lot more clots that usual. And I was in a lot of pain just that first day. Afterwards I felt ok. The bleeding lasted about 5 or 6 days and then was gone for good. Honestly, it was a lot like a normal period. If i wouldn't have known I was pregnant, i probably would have just assumed it was AF.

I've said this before but I'll throw this out there again... I had back to back MCs in Feb and March both at or before AF was due. Had I not tested early I would not have known. In fact, like this poster, I think I had at least one other before DS was conceived but didnt test so cant say for sure. When I got PG again in June they discovered I had low progesterone so they put me on supps. Unfortunately I MC that one too but as a result I'm seeing an RE and hopefully on my way to figuring out what the issue is so it doesnt happen again. I was seeing an RE within 7 mos of TTC whereas if I hadnt known about the MCs it would have taken me MUCH longer to go.

Yes it is extremely painful to know you've had a MC but knowing may help you to resolve underlying issues (if there are any) that might be causing it so you don't have to go through that pain again.

That said, I hope it is not the case here

Did you get a BFP before this heavy bleeding?
If so it might be...but i pray it is not.


I would def insist that you get an appt in the Dr's office and explain what is going on.

Thanks ladies. I was almost a week late, but this is not the first time. I planned on taking a test, but then when I started bleeding I just figured it was my period, but usually my period is not painful and not nearly as heavy. The clots and tissue scared me, but it is lighter now, so maybe whatever it was it has passed, but still have some stomach and back pain. Hoping I can wait until tuesday for my dr apt, but might get checked out if the pain is still here. Thanks again for your help!!

It's really hard to say whether you are or not, as I have had "clotting" from a period before and not been pregnant. And when I miscarried I barely had any. If you were miscarrying you wouldn't need to see anybody immediately as you are miscarrying on your own.

Personally, I would just rather not think of it as a lost pregnancy, and just a late period.
