I donate to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station. I like that they don't sell your stuff, they have a community closet, food pantry, etc. for the community.
Oooh! Thanks for posting! I have some baby food & formula that I can bring there!!!
definitely helping hands - they do wonderful things and have been around forever - everything will help local families.

I think most of the charities that pick up sell the items and the money go to the charity. There are organizations like Bottomless Closet that give the clothes to people who need them.

It's so sad but I don't know...we have a drop box that I go to and I don't know who gets my clothes. I think good will but I can't be certain

I don't donate anything to Goodwill anymore. Their prices in their stores are astronomical. I also found out they buy Target's leftover clearance for .10 on the dollar and sell it for 50% of retail, so it ends up being more expensive at Goodwill than it was at Target. The best part was the rug I had thrown in the dumpster in my complex...it ended up there somehow, same stains and all, and was priced for more than I paid for it at Ikea 
Those clothing boxes usually sell the clothes to local thrift stores. Which I guess is fine since they use the money for their programs.
If you want someone to actually *use* the clothing that is in need without them having to buy it, I would donate to a church or women's shelter.

I always use this service - you schedule it and they come straight to your house, they give you a pick up date. I think it's through the Police Athletic League. I prefer to know my clothes are going to needy people and not being sold for scraps!

I agree with u 100% and am looking to donate cloths to people in need,,, i dont belong to a chruch or anything please recomentd im in selden thank you

I usually contact Big Brothers Big Sisters but am curious what they do with everything. I heard they sell things to other stores to make money for their program? Does anyone know if that is how they work?
