Need some tips!
1-What do you do for a student who is s.l.o.w.e.r. than molasses? Seriously, this girl almost thrives on being the last one done.
2-What are some ideas I can offer to parents who are having a REALLY difficult time with their child at home with homework? He is GREAT in class, but apparently at home, he is a polar opposite and puts up a real fight!

Re: Need some tips!
for 1-it's hard for me to say because we tell the kids that if they don't finish their work at work time (of which there is PLENTY), they need to do it at center time (that usually speeds them up)
as for 2-do the parents have a hw routine setup? When there is a definite routine, kids anticipate it and usually try to stop negotiating it? How long does it take them? We are K, but we recently told some parents that if it's taking more than 20 mins, stop, write where the 20 min mark was, and let us know and we can work from there....also, when are they trying to do it? Are they giving your student some down time? Perhaps ask the child what they would need to be cooperative (only because I know the nature of your bunch ;))...hth?

Re: Need some tips!
#1- try setting clear limits and breaking up the task. Example- "You have 10 minutes to complete these 10 problems" You can also use a timer on her desk so she can see how much time she has left. Another idea is to use positive reinforcement- A sticker chart where she gets a sticker for every task she finishes on time. I don't know the age so that's an example of what I'd use in an elementary school. One more thing- is she distracted at all? Is there a chance she is having difficulty with the work or has a form of ADHD with or without the hyperactivity?
#2 Are they willing to let you give a consequence in school? Sometimes just the parent saying "it's up to you if you finish it or not but you'll have to explain to Mrs X why it's not done" can be enough

Re: Need some tips!
Thanks for the advice. I'm def. going to inquire about #2 having a homework routine at home and maybe giving breaks. I'll also ask about school consequences since he loves being in school.
As for #1, no, no adhd/add. She just takes her sweet a$$ time. It's almost like she wants us to wait for her.
