HI everyone
Im a regular poster but have to be a secret for now......I went to the doc yesterday and had a sono I am 5 weeks 5 days my doc didnt exect to see much but saw the sac and what she said she thinks is the formation of the baby, she said a couple of days really makes a difference, anyway i go back the 29 for a repeat sono, anyone else who had an early sono only see the sac this far along? Im extremely nervous about everything and unfortunately due to certain circumstances in my life Im going to have to have a CVS test done, anyone have experience with this also? thank you for your support until that test is over i wont be able to exhale

Re: HI everyone
Don't worry it's perfectly normal at this stage of the game not to see a baby but to see a sac. You'll feel better when you see the baby and hear the heartbeat. As for CVS testing I am sorry but I have no answers for you.

Re: HI everyone
From what I hear it is perfectly normal. Many docs wont even do a sono that early on for that very reason. Good Luck!

Re: HI everyone
First off congrats!!! Your fakie name was very close to my fakie name, so I did a double take!
You are still early, so I would not worry. As for the CVS, I have no experience.

Re: HI everyone
I tell this story to everyone!...I went in thinking i was 7w3d...really measured at 5w3d...didnt see a HB. Went back less than a week later and the baby was measuring at 7w3d and there was a HB! So I saw a HB and even skipped a week somehow!
Don't worry!

Re: HI everyone
Welcome and congrats! Yes, you are very early to see anything much so don't worry. My Dr wouldn't even see me until I was almost 8 weeks.
Not sure what the CVS is but I think it's similar to an amnio right? I'm having an amnio next month. I am nervous, but I feel much better after speaking to the genetic counselor and I look at it this way- at least you will have peace of mind afterwards...
Good luck!

Re: HI everyone
Hi secret, {{crashing}} to let you know I had the CVS test too! I c&p'd a post I made when I was pg here. The test itself is EASY, I'd say the discomfort level was mild to moderate, but definitely worth it for the peace of mind! Good luck!!!

What is this CVS test that you all speak of! lol
I just found it online!
Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) This diagnostic test is usually performed between 8 and 11 weeks gestation, sometimes as late as 13 weeks. This is generally a test for people who have a high risk of genetic abnormalities. Test results are available within 7 to 14 days. Miscarriage rate from CVS is about 4%, recent studies indicate that if the CVS is done before 10 weeks gestation there is an added risk (.5% to 1.7%) of limb deformity, and about 3% CVS is associated with serious decline in amniotic fluid protection. There is a greater incidence of false positives because of the differences between the cellular genetic material of the choirionic villi and the fetus. There is a small chance that the sex they determine is wrong as well.
Yep! Though their m/c rate looks a little high to me, the documentation I got classed it at about 1%, same as an amniocentisis. The CVS is similar to an amnio, they insert a needle (either abdominally or vaginally) - and withdraw placental cells (which have the same chromosomal makeup as the fetus). By testing the actual chromos, they can confirm abnormalities, like Trisomy 13, 18 and 21 (Downs), as well has give you a confirmed "xx" or "xy" for gender!! Also the lab I went to will NOT perform it outside of the 10wk to 12wk window for safety. I had it done due to increased risk for Down's due to maternal age, and got my results the very next day, so that was a HUGE relief!!
