Final Edit - YAY!!! EDITED with Idea - What would you do

Okay so here's the situation (I know I'm going to sound like a spoiled brat but...) My MIL told us that she would buy us the rocker/glider for Christmas. She asked me which one I wanted, so I told her the one I registered for and sent her the information. She calls me back and tells me that there was one that was cheaper (by $40) but it's not the one that matches my furniture. I told her that I really want the one that is part of my set. She got annoyed about it, but said that she would get it. Well, I just got a delivery from UPS and it's the glider/rocker that was cheaper and doesn't match my set. I'm really upset about it. I know that it was a gift, but I don't want it. She also ordered it from Amazon instead of from where I registered. I just looked into returning it and it's $39.49 for return shipping and the additional $40.00 for the one I wanted. Would you keep it or return it? I really don't have an extra $80.00 right now, but I think I might be pi$$ed off everytime I look at the stupid thing, but I want a glider. I'm so upset. Please tell me if I'm being ungrateful and should just get over it.


ETA: Okay, so I gently pulled the amazon shipping tags off of the box and I'm going to have DH try to return it to Walmart. They sell that rocker and the one I want there. I hope it works

2nd ETA: When DH got home last night, he was really pi$$ed and called his mom. She said that she thought it was the one I wanted. Maybe she did, but I did send her the link with my registry and a picture of the glider. Anyway, we drove around trying to return the thing today and we were finally able to return it at Walmart. I got a store credit and ordered the one I wanted and it only cost us the $40 more I'm so happy

Can you post pics of the two of them? That is really crappy of her to do that over $40 if she offered to buy it. It is really awful that she said she would get it & then ordered the other one anyway. I would be ****** off too. Yes you will be mad every time you look, sit, clean it. I would make DH deal with it.

It would bug me. It is a different color finish. All your set is espresso, and that glider is cherry. I know online it doesn't look that different b/c they both have a beige cushion but it will stick out way more in person. You need to bite the bullet, and talk to her. I would call her & say I got a package today but it was the wrong one. Something like that. Or make DH deal with the headache. Sorry she is being annoying. I think it might be easier if you tell her you will pay to ship back the wrong one if she orders the new one.

I'd be fuming!!!! So passive aggressive of her!! She asked you about the cheaper one, you told her no, and she got it anyway!! I was telling DH about your post and he said she prob ordered the one off of Amazon before checking if it was ok with you!!

To be honest, the differences between the two gliders aren't SO bad. I do like the one you wanted better and REGARDLESS, it was really insensitive and rude of her to order the one that SHE wanted for you instead of the one you wanted. Not nice, especially after she told you she would get you the right one.

AND it would have cost her only $40 more, but it will cost you $80! Ugh, so annoying.

I would absolutely be angry. Um, you register for a reason. And not for nothing, she ASKED you and you said NO, you wanted the one you registered for. I mean, really, I can't imagine it's over 40 bucks, it's really just her being passive aggressive The ONLY thing I can think of is maybe she ordered it before asking you, thinking you wouldn't care, but then asked you as a formality? Forget it, I know that's not it, but I thought I'd try

That is really annoying! Why did she bother asking you which one you wanted if she wasn't going to get it for you? I don't know what I would do...i'd prob just end up keeping it b/c i wouldnt want to spend the extra $, but it would piss me off too considering the circumstance.

if they sell the same one at BRU put it on your registry before you go there. they wont take it back with out a reciept but maybe you could get store credit if its on ur registry

If it doesn't work to return it at Wal-mart, I'd probably be a REALLY big brat and to make a point, just bring it to her house and say since I have no where to put this, you can just keep it or return it.

Sure, you're out a gift but at least you don't have to now keep something that doesn't match your set and don't have to spend $$ to get rid of it.

Things like this really pi$$ me off.
