So done with my ILS
Well basically in DH'S family you are chop liver unless you have kids.
Holidays are not important, bdays, etc. Everything revolves around SIL and
her kids. I am so sick of this and how selfish they all are and its starting to hurt
my DH and me. I've already voiced this to them plenty of times and nothing
ever changes. I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I plan
on booking vacations around all major holidays

Re: So done with my ILS
I'm really sorry about this. We deal with this as well, except it's my family that does it. I don't think they mean to, it just kind of happens. I have been more insistant that things happen at our house and on our schedule so that it forces their hands a little. Sometimes it works and sometimes not.

Thank you, it just stinks b/c they will bluntly come out and say how selfish they are! They actually admit it!

Wanna go on a cruise with us next Christmas?
I've never been fond of holidays with in-laws, and now there is the first baby to be in the family (not ours) which makes it even worse.
There was a toast to the expectant parents, new home owners, and then DH & I were thrown in there at the end, as an after thought & everyone laughed.

LOL, I always say we're the after thought when it comes to the "family". Their toast sounded like our Thanksgiving day dinner.

I am sorry that all of you guys are being treated like that. its a shame that people think children are the most important things in life. and to treat family like that just sucks!!

Not really sure why you are offended by that. In my family it is pretty much the same...Christmas always kind of revolved around the small kids, now my kids. We all got to celebrate Santa and gifts when we were younger and now it's the their chance.

ONE person in the whole family (not MIL) dictates where everyone spends
a holiday. Its BS. We all come running b/c thats where her kids will
be. I do have the option of not going and that means sitting home alone.

I completely understand. We celebrated Christmas on December 18 (a Friday) because all revolves around SIL.

But if you are a person/family/couple without children where does this leave you? I think the original poster is feeling left out because they are not being acknowledged. That they are some how not as important because the don't have children.

I am sorry they are purposely like that. It's hurtful and I dont blame you for not wanting to expose your self to that.
