When was the last time you caught something and got sick?

I told my sister I didn't get sick at all this year and she voiced her jealousy, saying she thinks it's because I'm not exposed to children every day.

So I wanted to test the theory among you... When was the last time you got sick? Not food poisoning type of thing, but something you had to catch from another person?

Love the poll; however, I take the NYC subway every day, so even though i'm not around kids per se, i'm around tons of germs so just thought i'd throw that in. If someone sneezes near me on the train I bolt tho!

In October, on vacation though-- lots of germs on a cruise.
Before that it had been close to 2 years.
And I also take the subway 5 days a week.

ETA-I'm not sure if it is my lack of exposure to kids, b/c from K-12 I was only out sick twice ( 4th & 12th grade)

I'm with your sister - for the 5 years when I was teaching and around kids every day, I was sick (a cold or worse) roughly once a month. Since I changed careers 2 1/2 years ago and began working only with adults, I have not been sick even once.

I just started working part time in a school so i will keep you posted Purell & vitamins!!! I actually got sick all the time when i commuted to the city...LIRR and subways are germ disseminators!

I got a small cold in November but I havent been really sick *knock on wood* in a long time

I have two Nephews whom I caught a cold from last month. I got a cold from my So but I'm better now. I used to never get sick but this time around is different and I don't know if it because I used to go college.

I haven't "caught" anything from anyone that I know of in a long time. I've had colds and stuff but I have very bad allergy/sinus issues. No one else around me had anything at the time.

I caught a cold from my (adult) sister last week.

ETA- I take the subway every day also, and I would think that I'm pretty exposed to germs.

I was sick more times this year that I have been in the past 5 years. Stress is a horrible, horrible thing.

Sorry to hear so many of you have been sick! Interestingly enough, that same sister told me yesterday that her youngest has severe pain in his knee, can't walk, and they think it's a Strep infection that is now resident in his joint.

They have to put a needle behind his kneecap and draw out fluid to do a test on it.

I asked about it on Parenting and got some information, and a great FM from a mom who has dealt with it. I passed it on to my sister through email, and I'm hoping she calls me soon to tell me how it goes.

This is the same nephew who has asthma and who battles constant problems every winter.

I rarely get sick, but I have a cold right now that I think I picked up at Mohegan Sun over the weekend.

Kids or not, everyone is exposed to germs everyday. Commuting on public transportation, going grocery shopping, pushing elevator buttons, opening doors, the list is endless.

I just believe that NOT catching colds has a lot to do with our own immune systems.

I rarely get sick, but this year has been the worst. I think it may have been the office I was working in.

I called out sick prob 5-6 days this year b/c of this whole flu thing going around.
Working in close quarters with others didnt help the fact at all.

I'm a teacher, and I haven't been sick in almost two years. KNOCK ON WOOD!

I work with kids so this doesn't apply yo me really--but I dont get sick often and I am around lots of kids in tight quaters all day, every day.

I attribute it to a good immune system and my not being a germophobe.

i work w/ 12-13 yr olds and i probably got sick from 1 of them last month.

DH got sick last week from either someone in his office or from the subway or the train.

most of my illness comes from the parents that work around me. I don't get angry at them for the most part, we have daycare at work and when one kid get's sick the all do including the parents. My issue is when they bring their sick kid in and can't use the daycare so they sit them in the office to cough all over me

I was sick for 2 weeks in the beginning of October, about a week in December and I feel a little like I am coming down with something now. This is more sick then I have been in several years.

I got sick last year when I had a sick college student come in for treatment. She sneezed and coughed all over everything. I figure I picked it up from touching the doorknob after her.

Before my sinus surgery, I was sick every month. (I guess from stuff not being able to move around there...)

I had surgery in March and I just broke the healthy streak and had a cold last week. It's still lingering... But I went from every month, to once in a 9 month span, so that's OK with me.

Now DH is sick, and he just told me that someone in his office has the swine flu!

I teach at a school and I was not sick from March 2008-July 2009. July 2009, I had a really bad runny nose, which was no fun.

I think some people are just more susceptible to being sick. There are people who I work with who get sick all the time.

I work in a very small office (3 of us), so I think that cuts down on me getting sick.

Alot of the time when I get a cold it's b/c DH brings it home (cop) and he is around alot of people.

I don't necessarily think it has to do with being around kids or not.
