Can anyone help me remember this book

I want to say it is from around 2002. All I remember is it is a story being told by a teenage girl. You are lead to believe she was kidnapped and they haven't found her yet, only to later discovery she is dead and telling her story from heaven.

I thought it was The Lovely Bones and wanted to reread it before seeing the movie. Now that I am reading it, I realize this is not it and it is bothering me to remember what it is.

I know thisis nor much info to go on, but does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

It definitely sounds like the Lovely Bones. I vaguely remember another book similar to the Lovely Bones from around that time, but can't remember much else about it.

It is definitely not The Lovely Bones. You know right from the beginning that she is dead.

I'm trying to remember a book like that too.

I think in it she has a brother, not a sister, who helps the father look for her.

And there is something about a department store- the brother works there I think- or pretends to and she goes looking for him....are we talking about the same book?

I did some creative googling to find a list of fiction with kidnapping as the subject-

The book I was thinking of was The Bright Forever by Lee Martin

I googled fiction with kidnapping as subject and came across this LIST I clicked on anything that sounded familiar then I recognized the cover
