I'm fine as long as I look as far away as possible. I wasn't always that way, but I've had hypothyroidism for about 10 years and I've gotten much too familiar with having blood taken Chat Icon

Re: Since being PG involves lots of blood-draws... (poll)

It doesn't bother me to have blood taken. The only problem I have is my veins are very deep and sometimes they have a hard time finding them. It bugs me when they keep poking me trying to find a vein.

I am fine with it and I watch just to make sure they got it. I have rheumatoid arthritis. I got blood drawn monthly and injections or IVs weekly. This is nothing to me!

Re: Since being PG involves lots of blood-draws... (poll)

I've always had a ton of health issues, so having blood taken was no big deal. But for some reason EVERY SINGLE TIME i would have it done, i'd get queasy and stomach sick lol

It wasn't that I was nervous or anything, it just "happened". However, since i had to see an RE and have blood taken every 3 secs, I somehow got better with it.

Now I just give them STRICT instructions..I need to be laying down and you must must must take it from my hands.

They look at me like i'm crazy but its the only way I can get through! It's annoying and i hate being that way but whatever. it works lol

i have no veins in my arms that are worth even trying for.

I don't like watching the needle go INTO my skin (esp because most the time, the nurse looks really puzzled when they start searching my skinny arms with no veins).

I like seeing blood going through the tubing though... esp like hearing it fill up the tube.

I don't have a problem with it and I prefer to watch when they stick me... maybe I'm a weirdo.

I've gotten used to it since my time at the RE. I did 2 IVF cycles and had blood drawn a million times from them, so now it's no big deal. At least my veins have finally recovered!

Re: Since being PG involves lots of blood-draws... (poll)

I'm completely fine with it, but I can't look at it. I was actually extremely phobic of getting blood taken before I got pg with Ava, but after all that blood work and having a c-section, it's a walk in the park now.

It doesn't bother me at all. I actually like watching the needle go in. I know, I'm weird!

Doesn't bother me. I usually look away for the needle stick. I feel like it hurts less if I don't know it is coming. Once that is over I watch to see how much they are taking.

I had immune system issues that forced me to have blood taken every week for several months. I am completely immune to blood draws. Chat Icon

I have no problem with it.
At the Quest Lab that I go to there is a woman there who is AMAZING! You don't even feel a thing with her.

With other people, the worst part is that stupid rubber band they wrap around your arm fat.... not the needle.

I used to be a big baby and would pass out. I did IVF so I didn't have a choice....I had to get used to it!

I have no problem with it and even look as they're doing it.

I was squeamish until about age 19 about it and then just didn't think anything of it.

I'm fine with it, but my DH- oh man- he practically passes out when having blood drawn. He's 6'8'' but a total baby!

I'm a fainter and usually very bad with needles. But I have been good with this and my last pg. I just look away and try to talk about lots of random things with the tech.

The only thing that bothers me is when they don't listen. I have rolling veins and usually they pop atleast one and i have a huge bruise if they don't listen to how I tell them to draw the blood.

Since seeing the RE it doesn't bother me at all anymore. Every time I saw the RE, which was like 2x a week sometimes, they would take blood. I got used to it.

I am a wimp when it comes to having blood taken. I ask to lay down, I completely look away and I stay laying down for a few moments after. I will say that with this pregnancy I've been so excited about being at the doctor to see/hear the baby that I don't mind the bloodwork so much.

Re: Since being PG involves lots of blood-draws... (poll)

I'm usually fine with it as long as I turn away.

I have terrible veins, so that usually means I have to endure being poked several times in both arms (a few times they went to the back of my hands & two times they went on the top of my feet) to get anything.

I ALWAYS have black & blues the day after...no matter how gentle the nurse was in trying to take it.

After multiple IVFs to get pregnant with DC#1, and what seemed like thousands of blood draws. And now being pregnant with DC#2 again through IVF.. I STILL CANNOT WATCH when they draw blood!

You'd think by now I could do it myself! Chat Icon
