PLEASE HELP re UTI
I woke up this morning with what I am 100% sure is a UTI. We were driving back from FL and I guess yesterday I did not pee enough.
I drank cranberry juice and it got better. But now it burns a lot again and (TMI) when I urinate there is a slight pinkness when I wipe.
Coincedentally, I have my annual with my GYN on Monday. I do have some Macrobid (antibiotic) at home from a UTI a few months ago when I was pregnant.
My question is should I wait until my GYn appt on Monday so they can do a culture or should I start the antibiotics (since it burns so much) and risk that the culture may not show anything on Monday??
Sorry this is so long but I would really appreciate any advice as I am REALLY uncomfortable!!

Re: PLEASE HELP re UTI
In my experience I would have to take the antibiotics. So I would take the medicine. Because if you're that uncomfortable now, it will only get worse by Monday. Feel better.

Re: PLEASE HELP re UTI
Why do you have some off the old antibiotic left over? did you take the full course of the macrobid that was prescribed last time? my concern is that the bacteria in your urine could now be resistant to the macrobid. If you did take the full course of the antibiotic in the past and have another UTI then it is possible that then macrobid is not sensitive to the bacteria and never really killed off the last UTI. Then you would need a urine culture BEFORE taking any new meds because you would need a different antibiotic. if you are really in pain i recommend going to a walk in urgent care center for a culture, they are open on the weekends.

Thanks for your reply. I have medication left over because it was a few days before my c-section so the rest of the course of antibiotics was given to me at the hospital. My son is now 5 months old so I do not think it is the same UTI as I have had physicals and cultures since.
I have had really bad experiences everytime I have gone to an urgent care so I avoid them at all costs.
Thanks though I appreciate your help

Thanks for your response - I think I will take it and I will just let my Dr know on Monday and I hope he will figure it out.

I hope you're feeling better by now!! For the future, not sure where you live but First Choice Medical is an urgent care/walk-in BUT they are NOT a clinic so not your typical - you can make an appointment.
They have 3 locations: Holbrook, Eastport, and Riverhead. 631-585-5858.
Good luck!!
