Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
I didn't. I went on a short 3 day cruise to the Bahamas in August. We really got lucky, though- there were storms/hurricanes before and after it.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
We went on a Caribbean cruise during the last week of August last summer. I was certainly nervous as the trip got closer, as there were storm threats, and I was nervous about our flight being delayed as well. That said, everything went smoothly and we had a wonderful time and mostly nice weather. I would definitely get trip insurance though.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
Best time to go since it's cheap. Always buy trip insurance.
I've never had a problem and I always go in the summer.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
I've gone during hurricane season and it was fine. As others have mentioned, you should get trip insurance.
I'm in the caribbean now and it isn't hurricane season and it rained off/on all day today. i feel like you will get some rain no matter when you go to the caribbean.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
Thanks. Yes, I am going to get trip insurance. I have never gotten it before but just a few weeks ago, right after New Years, a friend of mine couldn't go on his trip. He was supposed to go to Disney World on the Sunday when we had that storm. The airline could not get him there until Tuesday and it was not worth going for just 1 day at that point. He was only out the $ for the trip insurance. Since then I have said that I will buy trip insurance in the future.

You could always go to Aruba which is outside the hurricaine zone.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
DH and I flew through a hurricane to the Bahamas once it was so scary--and we lost a whole day bc of crazy rain/winds...we did not even get a good deal $$ wise--so yeah I would probably skip it from now on personally

true but make sure you get a direct flight. dh and i went to aruba in 2006 booked at the last minute and had connecting flights in miami. we were the last flight out of miami that day to aruba due to a hurricane. it was a very turbulent ride to aruba. we only went for a few days and on our return flight we landed in the hurricane at kennedy.

Absolutely not. We've been to Jamaica and St. Maarten in hurricane high season.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
I always get trip insurance. I've been to the DR during hurrican season (July) and the weather was fantastic. It would pour at nite for maybe 30 minutes then stop. No issues
I went to Jamiaca this past July and I will not do that again. It rained everyday by 330/4 and the sun never came back out.

We always get trip insurance, highly recommend it.
But we've gone away three times during hurricane season. Our anniversary falls in that time frame so we get great deals.

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
)We almost always go during hurricane season
One time, it did mess up the vacation a bit...We were staying in Florida for a few days and cruising out of Florida...A hurricane hit Florida and we lost power there...Our cruise wasn't affected too badly except for the fact that we had to spend an extra day at sea because one of the islands we were set to stop at was hit hard....
You may want to look into teh travel insurance ( we never have, but I think we've just been very lucky

We were on a very rainy cruise this summer during hurricane season and in Mexico during Hurricane Ida, so from now on, YES I will avoid it!

Re: do you completely avoid the Caribbean during hurrican season
We didn't. We went on our honeymoon to St. Thomas in the beginning of Oct (2008). No hurricanes while we were there. I had called the resort we were staying at about a week before the trip to see what was forecast for the week we would be there. And then I asked about their hurricane season in general and they said it's really mostly humid... and boy were they right!
