Ants! In the winter?!
So the past two weeks we've been finding ants in our den and in the bathroom in the den.. How is this possible!? It's winter time! Any ideas for how to get rid of them? Looking for non-toxic options because I'm pregnant! So frustrating! Thanks for your help!

I have Lady Bugs...I can not understand it either, shouldn't they be dead by now? Still finding one or two a week in my house. I understand your frustration.

Re: Ants! In the winter?!
We have had a few here and there this winter too--never enough for me to do anything, and we have a toddler so I don't like using traps or sprays either.
Last spring the ants got bad. I tried peppermint oil and white vinegar , not together separately. You rub it in the area you see them and it is supposed to keep them away. But I didn't notice any difference, the ants remained.
Your best solution is to poke around outside near the den and see if you can find the ant hill, if you can, destroy it. Also seal up any cracks in the floors or walls, doorways that you reasonably can seal. I also put outdoor traps in the area where they were, and that seemed to help.

Re: Ants! In the winter?!
Ugh us too. Lil tiny black ones. They could be dark brown who knows. But they are in our kitchen only. And only if there is a lil water around and once when we left dishes in the sink. We know we have a small crack outside in our foundation, so that must be where they are coming because its directly outside the kitchen. Either way they are annoying and gross. And said to say the only thing that worked for me was Raid Ant Spray. But you said you couldn't use that... ants stink ...

Diatomaceous earth is a non-toxic option, can be used on a variety of pests.

Re: Ants! In the winter?!
Uggh, we just bought our house in June and I've noticed a couple ants here and there these last few weeks. One time in our downstairs bathroom and Sunday 2 ants on top of our washing machine! Both are in the area of the garage and another outside door. Hmmm, yucky. At least I know its not unheard of. We have a baby and are reluctant to spray.
