regular. i hate the retractables

why?

all my dogs before i got regular ones and they would always get it caught under their feet or around a tree, it would drag on the ground...

When i got the retractable one it was sooo much easier and better to control...

But i miss the cutie old ones

We use both, depending on where we are walking.

well i feel like theres absolutely ZERO control over the dog with a retractable one. they can get so far ahead of you in .02 seconds.

but you have to remember where i live. if i had a retractable one the dogs would be getting in everyones way. perhaps if we were just by ourselves in the woods or beach id use one of those, but for walking no way.

you cant train a dog on a retractable leash.

just my personal preference

*i also CANT STAND when im walking my dogs on their regular leash and someone else is using a retractable one and their dog sees mine and goes running towards us but the owner cant put the stop on it soon enough and disater can occur! lol

i like that regular ones are cute though too, but thats not why i use them

Re: What kind of leash

Regular one.

Not sure how true it is but... the trainer told us retractible are not good. The break very easily and if they do they could cut the dog. With little dogs they could cut a limb off Chat Icon Chat Icon

I used to use retracktable now only regular. Annie isn't t he best walker and the retracktable does not work with her Halti. I"m working on training Katie so I use a regular also.

We have both, but we rarely walk the kids, they usually have free run in the backyard.

DH's old dog was awesome! She didn't need a leash, but for walks, we took her on one. One day, we decided to try the retractable and another dog came after her. They 'argued' and the leash broke. Never again. It might be good for smaller, weaker dogs, but not for strong or big dogs. With the puppy, I'll actually double leash her because I'm so afraid she will get loose and run.

Retractable, but Bruno has tried to subject a few people to rope burn with it if they let him run around themChat Icon

Re: What kind of leash

Retractable.

We have really good control with the retractable and can control how far we want him or close to us we want him. It has a lock on it so we can keep it at that length.

It's great for at night when a car comes down the block because I can make it smaller to keep him next to me. Then when the car passes let it go.

Where we live we dont have to worry about it being busy since we live in a very quit not to many people out area. Plus all the dogs that are near us are all his friends so we dont have to worry about an "attack"

Regular, I don't like the retractable for walks. Maybe if I took her to a field or something to run around.

Re: What kind of leash

I use a retractable with Foxy...she will not poop in the general vicinity when we walk her so the retractible is the only way to get her to go when she is leash-walked.

The others use a traditional leash, except for Pyxie, who uses a padded show leash.
