ELA test prep help!
I don't like the resources I'm using for my third graders. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good book where they actually give suggestions on what to model for the kids. Something that won't bore them to tears. Anyone? Anyone?

I know you asked for book suggestions, but I thought you might find this website helpful. Just click on your grade level for support and practice activities. I found it useful.

Re: ELA test prep help!
Not a book, but here are a couple things I do:
- print the old tests from NYSED. I usually model one whole test (the writing) using the RAFT (Restate, answwer, For example, tie it up) and I model the essay.
- As a group, I go over the rubrics- I break them down into more "kid friendly" language.
- I use student samples without the kids names. I used to make overheads but now I have a laptop and projector, so I will just type selected answers- usually I try to find a high, medium and low responses, then the kids identify what is good and what can be improved. We use the rubrics for this.
