What is that? Sarah has 2 dimples in her cheeks and one in her chin.

Re: Anyone's baby born was a sacral dimple?
A sacral dimple, also called a pilonidal dimple, is an indentation in the skin crease between the buttocks and the lower spine (sacrum). Most sacral dimples are small. They typically don't indicate an underlying problem or need treatment. An unusual or large sacral dimple may indicate an abnormality of the lower spine, such as spina bifida.
A doctor may detect an abnormality in the lower spine by:
Ultrasound X-rays Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
My Doc tells me that 1 in 50 babies has this and my Jack is one of them. We had an Ultrasound done this week and there are no abnormalities. (Thank God!)

Wow. You must've been so scared until the test was done. I'm glad to hear that he's fine.

Re: Anyone's baby born was a sacral dimple?
Yes Aidan was born with a Sacral Dimple. The docs never even mentioned or noticed it til I pointed it out. One of his Peds was so not concerned he wouldn't do anything about it, the other Ped said she could not see that the dimple ended so to rule out anything he had a sonogram at about 2 weeks old. Everything was perfectly fine, and normal.
As I discuss it with more people, I am finding alot of kids have it, including our BF's daughter and even my SIL and others I know! I've just never seen one before so I freaked and thankfully my Ped is thorough so it put our minds at ease.
They also asked me if either DH or I had a pilinoidal cyst at anytime and I did... I wonder if that may be linked.

I have to check this out. Kevin does have an indent between his spine and tush. It is a decent size too.

Wow, I never knew there was a name for this. Claire has one and I thought it was odd, but no one has ever said anything about it. She is 6 months old now and seems fine, but I will bring it up at our next appointment. The funny thing is my niece who is now 18 months and perfectly healthy and walking has one and I thought it was odd, but then when Claire was born and had it I thought it was a baby thing. I feel so stupid now........

My daughter was born with one also and had a sonogram before we left the hospital. She was givien a clean bill of health and now at 9 1/2 months, is developing right on schedule and is ready to take off and walk.

I have them... it's always been a little embarrassing, but they are harmless - At least mine are. I just have to keep them clean.
