Re: article on "debarking

That is awful and disgusting. I cannot believe someone woudl do that to their dog.

My dog is a barker, he wil lbark all day if I ignore him and I would NEVER consider that even on his worst days....to me that is how they speak. Who am I to take that away???

Chat Icon I can't even read the whole article btw, it got me too upset.

Very sad. Although I don't think the owners in this article have totally malicious intentions, I wish alternatives to this surgery were explored in depth, such as the reason why the dog is excessively barking in the first place.

This reminds me of the cat declawing debate.

Re: article on "debarking

Just another way for owners to avoid the responsibility to select the right dog for their family and train it.

I'm against all surgery on pets that doesn't have a valid medical benefit. I think it's selfish and irresponsible.

I'm not sure why (I need more time to think about it) but the idea of debarking bothers me MUCH more than the idea of declawing.

I agree. I cried my eyes out having to bring my cats in to be fixed... and that was for their own benefit and the right thing to do.

I can't imagine bringing them in for surgery that wasn't 100% necessary- like declawing or this horrible surgery- and was only for my convienence and selfish needs.

HORRIBLE!

Same here. ITA

I felt guilty even taking away my boy's little "jewels". Even though I know he would be better off.

Re: article on "debarking

I know it is really popular with Shelties. It's a horrible sound...a dog that has been debarked. I've heard it. I wish people would take the time to teach their dogs not to bark before considering something like this.

Thats disgusting. If you don't like barking- get a stuffed dog.
