Depends for the hospital bag??!

Ok, so I was chatting with my sister the other night about packing your hospital bag. She had her babies a few years ago but said a friend who recently had her baby packed Depends...or Poise...or one of those incontinence brands in her hospital bag because she swore they did a better job than the hospital pads did. She said there was no leaks, they were super absorbent, etc.

Has anyone else heard of this "secret trick?" My sisters friend said she wore them for weeks after the baby was born!

I just wonder if a big adult diaper is necessary?

Ugh NO WAY could I deal with that feeling. My secret trick I learned from my aunt,I bought "support underwear" like spanx that are super tight and suck you in. They also have a gurdle like waist so it holds the belly in as well. I wear that with the new always super thin overnights and it works amazing.

I wore the same thing when DS was born 6 years ago and it worked fabulously. I also think it helped get my stomach back into shape quicker.

I am not a "pad" girl and can't stand the way they feel so this is the perfect solution if you are like me.

I got mine at Target but they have them at JC Penney and Walmart as well. Try it.

First of all, Depends etc are just like heavy duty maxi pads, they aren't like diapers. IMO they all work, its just a personal preference and what you feel comfortable wearing. With my son I had proper maternity pads, this time round I just bought the big nighttime always ultra pads with wings.

I could see how the depends would be great, because they absorb alot and stop odors, but its up to you.

Oh I could never wear those things. Also they are visible through the pants. I worked with seniors forever trust me on that. I love the idea of the spanex with the pads. I will defin be trying that out.

Same here. I did use the hosptial pads while there, but when I came home I was all about the spanx and a pad. I also have worn control top pantyhose everyday during the day too. Both have helped my back feel better and help with the belly too.

I did think it seemed excessive when I heard about it, but I've never had a baby before, so I was wondering how much bleeding you actually do! I really don't want to be leaking everywhere.

And as far as the Spanx with the overnight pads...what size Spanx do you know to get? A size up from your regular-non-pregnant underwear size? Two sizes up?

We had our child birth class this weekend and the nurse suggested Kotex Overnights. She said the pads the hospital give you are horrible! Chat Icon

OMG........I would never!! Chat Icon Chat Icon I bled A LOT (and I mean A LOT) after I gave birth and is lasted 8 weeks and I never wore a diaper. I used the Kotex overnights and they worked AMAZING!!! They held a ton of fluid and blood and I never leaked or had a problem. I think a diaper is overkill but to each his own I guess. I will opt for the Kotex again the second time around. Chat Icon

At the hospital they also give you pads with built in ice packs, those were good for the first few days too

I think she meant the depends or Poise Pads- not the actual adult diapers.
They have pads for incontinence that are supposed to be more abosorbant than a maxi pad- I think they are called Poise...

Re: Depends for the hospital bag??!

My friend who recently gave birth gave me the same exact advice- it is not exactly a diaper- they're called Depends Disposable Underwear. (I mean yeah, it's kind of a diaper, lol, but a lot thinner).

She had a v-birth and told me that for the 2 days she was in the hospital she needed to wear these or else she would leak and be totally uncomfortable- especially when there were visitors in her room. She said the depends were the BEST thing ever and strongly suggested I pack some.

She gave birth a year ago at the same hospital as I will be (North Shore Manhasset) so if the problem is with their specific pads I know this is a problem I will likely run into.

If you go to the Depends website you can order a free sample of the adult disposable underwear to check them out/ check out the sizing.

I personally could not imagine being comfortable in Spanx but I hate those things- I actually took them off at my own wedding after the pics/ before the ceremony b/c I felt like I wasn't breathing, lol.

Also, I think everyone probably faces a diff amount of gore pp. She might have just had a really heavy situation... idk- but I'd rather be prepared.
