first sono at the RE

Hi everyone,

So I have been lurking on this page since my BFP on 2/5. I am extremely nervous! I have a sono appt on Monday with the RE and it can't come soon enough. I just wanted to know what to expect. When they do the sono, is it external or internal? What should I expect to see? Can you actually see the heart beating? I just want it to be Monday already!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIA

I thik my first sono was at 6 weeks. It is internal and you pretty much just see a sack with a little nugget in it. We did hear the heartbeat, but we were lucky. Not everyone hears it that early.

Re: first sono at the RE

Mine did an internal sono. U basically see a little nugget on the screen w/ the slightest flashing light---that is the heartbeat. Honestly, it's tough to see much but it definitely gives u peace of mind and proves that "it's real." Good luck!

Re: first sono at the RE

my first sono at the RE i was exactly 5 weeks along.
it definitely is internal, and they saw the sacs with the start of the fetal pole.

do you know how far along you will be when you go?

Good question! I am confused about that as well!!! I stopped my BCP for IVF on 1/3, started stimming on 1/7 (I only got a bleed after I started stimming), ER was 1/18 and ET was 1/23. So... how many weeks does this make me? Chat Icon

Re: first sono at the RE

I believe that makes you 5 weeks.

At 5 weeks we saw the start of a sac. It's an internal sono.

6 weeks 1 day.........I think!!!!

(ETA: I was told that they calculate it using 2 weeks before the ER as the start date.)

When I went I thought I was 7 1/2 weeks but I was measuring at 6 1/2 weeks. We just saw a little peanu and the heartbeat and it was from an internal sonogram.

Good Luck! Chat Icon
