Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I have been taking OTC pre-natels for almost a year and when I got my BFP, doctor told me if they are working for me, stick to them (I am now 11 wks)
I thought that you are supposed to have long, gorgeous flowing hair and strong and gorgeous nails, where the heck are mine
Is it because I am taking OTC ones and not Rx?

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
My sister is not prego, but swears by DUET DHA. She has been taking them and has seen amazing improvements with hair and nails. She takes one dose every 3 days, but her doc doesn't see any problem with taking them every day. She lied and told him she was TTC just for the vitamins lol.
I'm taking them too and I have noticed my hair looking great, but I always thought it was the prego hormones.
I think its the fish oil, not the vitamins per say.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
my first PG, my hair grew down to my waist, was thick and shiny, I had super strong nails and a perfect complexion.
This time I am a pimply, stringy haired, soft nailed mess!

My hair has been growing like crazy since my BFP. My nails just showed up a couple weeks ago. I am 19 weeks.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I haven't noticed any change in my hair or nails whatsoever. I was hoping my slow growing hair would get a little boost but nope!

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I thought the same thing, but my hair is not the shiny pretty hair I was hoping for. My nails are ok, but I still get some breakage etc.
I really think it also depends on how pregnancy hormones are affecting you! Some people get beaufiful hair, skin, and nails. Some break out like crazy (moi!), and get stringier hair, etc.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
My hair and nails were better BEFORE I was pregnant.
After getting pregnant with DD, my nails started to crack and my hair was dull and flat.
Got better after she was born, and now that I'm pregnant again.... same thing as my first pregnancy.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
unfortunately you have to give it time - if your hair wasnt silky and super healthy before hand its not going to change - it refers to new growth. I didn't notice a different in my hair until about a month ago and thatwas after taking 8 inches off (around 20 weeks) and my nails around 14-15 weeks.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I've wondered about this myself. The only difference I see is that everything is growing faster, especially my hair. But no other differences.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I'm taking Prenate DHA, a prescription prenatal. I noticed a difference the beginning of my 2nd trimester, my hair started growing a lot faster and got a lot thicker.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
This is one of those subjects that is kind of misunderstood. Your hair can't become shiny etc from the vitamins because it would only affect the new hair growth, not your existing length. Also, your hair doesn't grow in thicker. You are not losing as much hair so it appears thicker. If you typically shed 100 hairs per day, you will only shed 20 hair per day while you are pregnant. These numbers aren't accurate, just an example. So your hair will start to appear thicker by your second trimester.

I always had great hair (Thanks Mom), but the nail department, not so much.
Oh well, guess I will see what happens.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I have thick long hair to begin with. I was hoping for it become more shiney...still waiting for this.
However, my nails haven't looked this great in well...never. I'm hoping they stick around after the pregnancy.

me too!!! im a nail biter, but with my PG with DS my nails grew SO long. now this PG they are so soft/brittle. and my hair is falling out like crazy?!? i asked my OB and she said that every PG is different and its not related to pre-natals. if it were, she says, everyone would take them for long nails and shiny hair.

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
I think it's the hormones that wreck havoc. Vitamins or not my hair still looks like cr@p. No vitamin or pregnancy in the world will help my hair. Nothing short of a hair transplant would!
I do see my nails- which have always been pretty strong- are growing like crazy.
However- my stylist has been telling me that my hair is growing faster and feels fuller (i don't see it but hey, whatever)
I am taking Prenatals with fish oil. They are give horrendous fish burps but I hear fish oil is great for skin and hair and nails...

Re: Where is the gorgeous hair and nails
My nails have been insane. I've been an on and off nail biter my whole life.. and I wouldn't be able to keep up with biting my nails if I tried.
It's definitely not the vitamins for me (since I've been taking them for awhile and the nail growing only started once i got pg) and probably the hormones.
No difference in hair.. still gross
