Prior to an ultrasound...
How far in advance are you instructed to start drinking water and how much water are you instructed to drink? I want to see what the norm is.

I was told to drink 24 oz of water starting 30 minutes before the sono and finishing it within 20 minutes.

I had a bunch of ultrasounds done and depending on where I had them done depended on if I had to drink water or not. I never understood why it was different yet all of my pics were clear regardless.

Wow, see, that's what I thought. When I got the level 2, I was told to drink 32 oz of water starting 2 HOURS prior to the sono and to finish 1 1/2 hours beforehand. I was DYING by the time it was an hour before my appointment. I thought maybe I just misunderstood them, but I have a sono scheduled for Monday and they told me the same exact thing....2 hours prior. I'm going to start an hour beforehand instead of 2 hours. I can't suffer like again...

So far I have not had to drink water before any of my ultrasounds.

In my first trimester I was told 32 ounces of water one hour before the ultrasound and it was AWFUL! Drinking all that water so quickly made me SOOOOOOOOOOOOO nauseaus and waiting for the damn sono while having all that water in my bladder was pure and utter torture...

When I went - I had to drink 32 ounces of water about 45 minutes before the ultrasound. As soon as she checked my cervix I was able to empty my bladder.
So the reason they have you drink the water is that its easier to see the cervix, at least thats what my tech told me.

I know I was told to drink water before my second ultrasound (which is the big one) which I go for in 2 weeks...but, I forgot how much and when they told me...I'm going to have to call the dr's office!
