Do you have a coffee table / cocktail ottoman? Esp parents...
DH and I are going back and forth about putting a coffee table in our family room which is primarily where DS plays.
We were thinking about this one, specifically. It is really cheap, so if something were to happen to it, we wouldn't care, but are we crazy to consider a glass-topped table for our family room?
Should we go with an ottoman instead?
Or nothing at all?
Thoughts / Opinions? Thank you!

Just be safe if you order a set like this that has the ottomans on rollers.
I was just out shopping for furniture and the guy there told me the kids use them to fly across the room on! (if they have wheels which some do).

The ottomans don't have rollers, thank god, because I could see DS doing this!

LOL I know. I never thought of it either until the guy said everyone that got that set (but with rollers) was really unhappy.

i'd be nervous about the glass top since DS (he's 2) loves to BANG things on ours.

We dont' have one, but I wouldn't do glass topped. One of DH's colleagues had one and their kid stood on it and it shattered. It was tempered glass so he wasn't hurt since it shattered into about a million pieces, but it was very scary for them and made a huge mess.

What about using an ottoman thats plush material on top and then using a fancy snack tray on top of that for when you want to put drinks on it?

I love it I just would be concerned with the glass. it should be tempered so if it does break it shouldn't cut him, but I still don't like that idea
how about a round ottoman? I think ikea has them cheap or home decorators or even the outlet

Since DS now likes to stand on the coffee table every chance he gets I would stay away from a glass topped one!

I would go with an ottoman. I would be scared of the glass too much. You can always buy a serving tray for the ottoman so you could put glasses and other things down on it. Buy one with storage for toys.

We have this one from Macy's. I liked the look of a stone one more but with small children, I went safe.
It has rollers on it which I like because it's easy to push aside when we need more room to play.

No, I wouldn't get it. DS would have demolished it long ago (or demolished himself). We actually have a wood coffee table that's kind of big for our room, and we're thinking of going with an ottoman with storage, something soft. He's whacked his head on the wood one time to many.

We have a leather tufted ottoman that I picked up when Domain was going out of business. The kids jump all over it, but it's downstairs in our den so I specifically wanted to get something that was kid friendly.

I had a table very similar to this one and put it away for now, DS is too much of a nut to keep it in our living room. he was so little and was already pushing the little chairs around the living room.
