NYCDOE Teachers
I filled out the application a couple of days ago to work for the NYCDOE and I got this email in my inbox today:
Congratulations! You have been chosen to interview for our TRQ Select program, managed by the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ). TRQ Select members will be a group of candidates who show the highest potential for teaching and will receive a higher level of support with their job search than the average applicant. This support will include access to a recruiter and automatic invites to any recruitment events that the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality may host.
Why participate in TRQ Select? Members of TRQ Select will be marketed to principals as having demonstrated evidence, in both their written application and an interview, that they have a track record of prior achievement and potential to become an excellent teacher and change agent in their school. In a year of uncertainty around hiring, we highly encourage qualified teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to interview for the program and the extra level of support.
Who will be chosen for TRQ Select? TRQ Select will be a diverse mix of candidates that show capacity to improve student achievement and serve as an effective leader and contributor to a school community. Some TRQ Select teachers will have prior teaching experience, while others will be recent college grads with a record of excellence. Some will be native New Yorkers and some will be from other states across the country.
Who is eligible for TRQ Select? We will be interviewing in February teachers certified in Special Education and Science (including Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics) who are immediately available for employment, and meet the New York State certification requirements. Teachers with Internship or Transitional B certificates will not be eligible for TRQ Select.
Please note that if you are certified in Biology, you will be considered for General Science (Middle School).
To view available times please follow the link below and login using your user name and password. Interviews should last about 30 minutes. YIf you are interviewing for a subject area in which you will teach Mathematics (e.g. Special Education, elementary level), you will be required to take a 30 minute math assessment after the interview is complete.
If you still have questions, please contact us at [email protected]. Please include a detailed description of your question in order to expedite your request. If you would like to decline this interview, please call us at (718) 935-4060.
We look forward meeting you!
Does anyone know anything about this? Do you think I should go or is it going to be a waste of time? Not sure if there are really any jobs out there. thanks for your help!!

Re: NYCDOE Teachers
Hummm, there is a hiring freeze now and so many teachers who already are in the system with no positions. I am not really too sure how they can be hiring now and what this exactly means. I would definitely look more into it before you "waste your time". Maybe call the UNION and ask them?
Good Luck, Keri

Re: NYCDOE Teachers
what is your certification area? if its gen ed it may be a waste of time as only "new" schools can hire new teachers.
although the doe denies that there is a hiring freeze, there most certainly is- depending on license area.
good luck!

Re: NYCDOE Teachers
It won't be a waste of time -- this may very well be a way to get a position at the DOE. There is a hiring freeze right now for most license areas except for new schools.

There is no hiring freeze in SpEd. That could be why the OP is getting positive feedback.
