Transitioning out of EI with a fall birthday
When did you start the process? I have been talking to the professionals that are working with DS a bit about this, but I sort of want a parent's perspective. I know that he may get more services from EI, but if he is eligible for a school program through the district, I don't want to wait too long and miss the boat.
Any advice?

I would put him in if there is an opening at a program. Many times these programs have waiting lists, so I would start looking now.

Re: Transitioning out of EI with a fall birthday
Start your process asap. Are you talking about a September placement or January?
I strongly suggest you get in when you can. A lot of classes are for the preschool age 3-4. So you may not be able to go in a FT program if you wait too long because some kids are not transitioning out yet of those classes.
For September, get in NOW. They will be starting screening at the end of March, April and May.
I am not sure how many spots there are for January.

I would get the evals done early. You always have the choice to keep EI until he ages out.
