Does the IUI procedure hurt?
I was just wondering if anyone had a bad (as in "painful"  ) experience with an IUI. My first one is coming up soon, and was just wondering what should I expect? Is it like a pap smear?

My IUI didn't hurt at all. I just had some very minor cramping afterwards but that didn't even last long.
It's a really fast procedure

It really isn't bad. At worst you should feel mild discomfort, at best you feel nothing. I usually have some pain during paps, and with my first IUI it was a little painful. My DR had to try twice  But with my 2nd round of IUIs I felt only a slight twinge for the first one, and nothing for the second.

ETA: It does help if you can relax all your muscles during the procedure... but I often find that super difficult - especially when they don't warm up the instruments!

It is comparable to a pap, yes. It pinched for a second and then i was fine. It's really no biggie, don't sweat it. You will be fine, promise!

I totally agree with PP, definitely relax during the procedure and it will make it easier. I've been told my cervix "wanders" so i am a bit of a difficult patient. And even for me, it's not bad at all. good luck!

I didnt even feel my first IUI i had no idea when she was actually done.
It was much less uncomfortable than a pap for me

They don't really hurt, except my last one was a little uncomfortable. It's bareable though.

I dread the pain of routine blood work more than pain from an IUI!!   It's really nothing!!!!!!!!!!
