SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
We need to start doing some exploratory looking to get a feel of where we want to move-- let alone trying to figure out what we can sell our apt for.
Anyway, we think we'll end up in Westchester... I know of some good towns, but was wondering if any of you ladies lived there and can provide some insight for a young family, who needs to have a good commute to NYC.
I am so sick of sharing walls with people, although I will miss an urban/town feel.

Re: SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
I have a co-worker who lives in Scarsdale and takes the Metro North to Grand Central everyday from New Rochelle. His commute sounds pretty painless. I think he said it is 45 minutes.
Scarsdale is supposed to be very good for schools.

Re: SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
I have a close friend who lives in Nyack. About a 40 min commute or so. The schools are great and the downtown area is very nice. Wasabi is great for sushi

Nyack is in Rockland - there are many nice areas there as well if you would like to expand your search (but, the train service is better from Westchester).

Re: SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
i grew up there but now live in jersey. lived in edgemont (it's considered the town of greenburg, located right above scarsdale village), went to both public and private schools... i'm sure things have changed since my family left 10+ years ago, but i still know people who have settled in the area and neighboring towns...
feel free to FM me and i can share my experiences/thoughts...

Re: SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
Westchester property taxes are !!! That's where DH and I first looked...but ended up in CT instead b/c taxes are SO much cheaper. I have a quicker commute to NYC than some of my Westchester friends do.

My sister and BIL live in White Plains. His family lives in Larchmont. Both are gorgeous towns to live in with great schools! Other than that, I know nothing about Westchester! lol

Re: SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
I live in Yorktown Heights.. and our taxes are not $$$$$$.. we live about 45 minutes from the city and 20 minutes to the Croton Harmon train station and there are many Am express trains which get you into Grand Central in less that 45 minutes. There are towns that are closer to train stations.. Cortlandt, Croton on Hudson, Ossining, Montrose..etc.. I love living up here and while I do miss my LI friends and family.. it is quiet, I live on .5 acres of land, there rarely is traffic and there are plenty of mall and shopping centers.. if you have any questions please fell free to Fm me

Re: SPR: Anyone live in Westchester?
I live in White Plains (direct train to NYC is under 40 minutes) and grew up in Harrison. I'm pretty familiar with the surrounding ereas too if you have any specific questions.
ETS- And in response to the taxes, lower Westchester is expensive, the further north you go they tend to drop. We pay just shy of $15K for a decent sized (not huge) one family house.

Even though Yonkers is convenient to get to the city, the public schools are not that great.
