vent- unemployed related, silly comments

we were eating dinner w/ DH's family. his BIL owns a hardware store and is very "handy". DH is not handy at all. DH's BIL mentions that his kids like going to the hardware store. I jokingly said "maybe DH can go there one day too to learn some stuff". i didn't even say it with a tone or anything. he replied with a bit of a sharp tone "well, you're the one who needs a job" I didn't even know how to reply b/c it really caught me off guard. I kind of just looked away out of embarrassment and said " i just meant because he's not that handy" (which they all know).

i don't know, but i felt really bad after his comment. i know i'm probably being sensitive since I'm unemployed for over a year. anyway, thanks for listening

It is understanding that you are sensitive to that comment. Times are tough right now as we all know and it takes alot for couples to have patience with eachother now a days.

Try not to take it personally. People who have jobs can only imagine what it's like to be out of work for so long.

The right job will come your way.

If it ever comes up again, just reply that if there was a job offer, you would have taken it and leave it at that.
