BC Question-Moms with IUDs-Mirena vs Paraguard?
I just had my 6 week PP visit with the OB yesterday. I am interested in an IUD for BC. The OB gave me pamphlets for both Mirena and Paraguard. I know the basic differences-one is 5 years, one is ten, one has hormones, one does not. Other than that, I am lost as to which to choose. I EBF if that makes a difference.
If you have one-which did you choose and why?

Re: BC Question-Moms with IUDs-Mirena vs Paraguard?
I chose the Mirena over Paraguard solely for the chance that it would lighten AF since I always had heavy periods. I was not afraid of the hormones since I had been on the pill prior to children for many, many years with no issues.
I absolutely love the Mirena... Best form of BC ever. Nothing to worry about, and I don't get AF, just some spotting every now and then.
However, I got the Mirena put in just after my 6 week pp visit, and I do think that may be the reason I was never really able to lose the baby weight. I never gave my body a chance to settle back to normal on its own. After my first DC, I didn't do any BC and lost all the baby weight and then some. Not so much the second time around so it really makes me wonder. I am mostly likely getting it out 6 months early this fall (Can't even believe I've had it 4 years already!).... and I will give my body 6 months of rest with nothing and then decided to get it again or maybe switch to Paraguard, which I want to avoid since it does make your AF heavier.
HTH!

I had the paragard one from March of 09 till this past January. I had very heavy periods with extremely bad cramps while on it. I don't think I'd get it again.

I have Paraguard and the OB preferred that I use one without hormones. I EBF as well and haven't had a period yet. I'm afraid of what'll happen the first time I get AF. I heard the first few periods are going to be really bad, but I'm hoping it gets better

I had Mirena untill this morning.. i had it taken out.. i could not lose the weight from having the twins 3years ago. I was having major mood swings ,no s*x drive at all , and breaking out like I was 16....so in a few months I will be going on the pill

hate the Mirena...I am currently on day 11 of my period. I have had it for almost 2 years. I am getting it out as soon as I can get in to the gyno! Before you choose that one read about it as much as possible.
