Ok. Now I need advice.

Let's say you for an awesome company. Many long term employees. Excellent benefits - including 401k matching, bonuses and a pension. Short commute. Don't love what you do but it pays the bills. Boss drives you INSANE. Days when you are BFF. Days when you feel attacked and criticized. Afraid to go out to lunch. Afraid to take days off. No friends at work because you are not "allowed" to have any.

Should you start looking? Do you hang in there because of the benefits and commute?

Pension kicks in after 5 years and 401k vesting (company contributions) is after 3 years.

You've been at the company for 2.5 years...

Re: Ok. Now I need advice.

that sounds miserable.

I would be looking at least.

I commute a long way and have lots of respect and a good relationship with my boss. I know I have a good job with someone who appreciates me and that is worth it.

No amount of money is worth being stressed out. So, if you can evaluate your situation, pros and cons..figure out if it's working for you, then make a decision.

Good company, good commute, good benefits, sh!tty job...I don't know if I could do it.

I would look. its a bad market, it could take you a while to find something. You wouldn't leave unless it was a better situation. This gives you time to be picky and find something good. Keep your options open.

Hang in there.

Yea I mean seriously - especially in this economy, I truly value my job and benefits. I just don't know how long I can deal with the moodiness. I'm constantly criticized but never given positive feedback.

I would actually love to go back to school for a career change but that's pretty much not do-able right now.

I guess there is no harm in looking.

I had a HORRIBLE, EVIL boss for 10 1/2 yrs. I stayed for the "pros". Eventually she retired so I was lucky and now I have a great boss---
