Ok just curious if you are a spanking MOM, How do you feel if DH does it to your DC???

BIG problem for us.
DH was beat as a child by a schziophrenic father.
I was spanked once at 9 years old.
For josh, he has been spanked by me, a handful of times.
never when dh is home...but i haven't spanked in ages since he asked me not to.
and honestly, i feel like i don't have to spank anymore because josh knows i will and that is the fear. i know that sounds sick, dh tells me it does...but he listens and it gets me through the day. dh would never ever want josh to fear him.

DH and I are usually on the same page when it comes to punishing the kids, so if DH feels a spank is the appropriate punishment, then I'm 100% okay with it.

Well this is so hypocritical, But IF and a big IF I ever Hit my dd (i dont THINK I will but you never know) It would be ok for ME . But if I ever saw DH do it I would freakin kill him.. Sorry its just how I feel ...

I can totally understand where you're coming from. You never want to see ANYBODY hurting your child.
If DH and I spank, it's a rare occasion and usually a last resort if various other punishments have failed. Even then, it's a light tap (I honestly think I've hit my kids on the butt harder when I was playing around  )

Like Janice, my DH is opposed to spanking. And I completely refrained from it- for a while. My DS is very headstrong and timeouts don't really do it for him. He has been spanked a couple of times for major offenses. My DH has not done it, but I would be fine with it if he did.

When you all say "Spank" ...what do you mean by it? I have always wondered this. In my head Ipicture a parent putting their child over their knee and spanking them. Is that what you all mean? OR a swat on the butt? OR a slap on the hand? Just curious.

Ok, so I guess I can better answer now.
I have smacked Noahs hand a few times and swatted his Butt less then a handful of times ...
but yes, DH has smacked his hand a few times ( maybe 3 total) and for some reason, I freaked out each time. How funny is that now that you say it, that we have that reaction? I feel like its not a good thing to do, although it gets the point across on rare needed occasion and so I guess I'm afraid he will hit too hard, or I dont know, its like an instinct kicks in.

Honestly I believe for ME, it stems from being hit by my father .. It was horrible , humiliating and much more

I agree!
Although, I will admit, when they get a slap on the butt from DH and they look at me or cry to me, I feel like going to comfort them. I do refrain, of course, because we never hit unless it is truly deserved. I dont feel any resentment towards DH though.

I'm conflicted, I don't understand why, but I feel this way too.
I was never spanked, threatened a lot and it usually worked. When it didn't my dad would do this fake spank thing, where he would clap loudly behind me.
I was so terrified of it, I would be wailing as if they had cut me open. It was never done out of anger and as I understand it now, it was a way to affirm authority and control. I hope I could be more creative about it when the time comes, and not have to raise a hand. But if I wasn't, I would probably take my parents approach.
DH wasn't raised around spanking, I don't even think he would know how to do it. Albeit, I would still kill him if he even thought about it.

I was in a home of intense physical discipline. we got whipped in the arse, slapped in the face, and not just with hands.
my husband was raised in a much more "normal" disciplinary household, and knows about my childhood.
I am highly sensitive to resorting to physicality too soon and I know my dh would respect that, but I honestly don't know how I'll feel until I see it.
I believe that my husband will use the utmost judgement and we are on the same page as of NOW with regard to how we will discipline...and I also agree with Marissa that at the end of the day neither of us has rank over the other...but I am just not sure...
I will say that my father was generally the one who beat us b/c he did it in a calmer manner than my mother. she hit me with the belt buckle once accidentally when I was seven and it left a hell of a mark. my dad didn't really "allow" her to hit us after that.

I'm completely against it. I was never hit as a child and personally don't think a child needs to be hit to get a point across. DH was hit as a child and never saw the point it in. eventually he laughed at his parents. we both agreed we don't hit. but if I do see DH ever hit our DS i would be furious!

omg i am so sad over this!!!! i cant even imagine..
my mom went through the same thing growing up.. my grandmother was so strict that she would hit you if you bumped into a pole and got hurt..
