Did Anyone Get THis Type of Sono??
I got a call from my OB yesterday telling me that at my next sono in 2 weeks along with measuring the babies brains, they want them to measure the length of my cervix? When i asked why she said to make sure that your cervix can handle twins since it has to stretch so much. So I just said okay that is fine, but then started thinking.....what happens if they find my cervix can't handle twins??? Did anyone get this done at one of their sonos??

I haev not, but I have heard of it being done. I believe with multiples you are more prone to whats called an incompetent cervix and they want to catch it as early as possible. If you have an IC it could put you on bedrest and cause you to go into L&D even earlier than expected with twins...I would double check all this information though, I feel like I heard it from my SIL (who is also expecting twins) but I also feel that my memory of the conversation is foggy.

That is what i was thinking. I remember someone on these boards had her cervix sewn shut and was on bedrest very early. I was just wondering if this is what happened if worse came to worse. Of course i was thinking that if i didn't have a good cervix they would have to do something horrible.

They've always measured the length of my cervix at the ultrasounds. If for some reason your cervix is not long enough you'll be put on bedrest or they might want to put a cerclage in. This happened to someone I knew.

yes they measure the length of your cervix to make sure it isn't "short" or "thinning" too early. I was put on strict bedrest for 9 weeks, now I'm 37 weeks and the baby is still in there! If you have any questions feel free to FM me.

They measured mine also, and if it is incompetant, they would do a cerclage.(sp?)

My friend had a circalage (sp?) too to 'reinforce' the strength of her cervix so she could carry the twins.
